I’m looking for some advice about what to do before I contact manufacturers and want to wait a period of time so that I’m more level headed. I was just playing around with one of my rods in my front yard (on grass, nothing around to get caught up on and so on)and I realized that something didn’t feel right in my hand with my line in it as when I was hauling. I look down and the fly line was in two pieces about a foot away from my hand. I have the SA redfish line on that reel and upon looking at the line, it looks like it sliced in half at a diagonal angle (not a rough rip or as if it were cut with a pair of scissors). The only cause I can imagine is something on the reel catching the line. It’s a Redington reel and I’ve never had any problems with it in the past. The line on the reel is about 6 months old. Should I e-mail Redington or SA? I’ve never really been lucky in the past about getting good customer service so I’m looking for some guidance about what I should do.
I’ve had good service with redington in the past on a broken rod. Question: Why would you think it was the reel? Any chance you were stripping hard and got a little backlash that slipped your flyline between the spool and the housing and cut it off when you stripped line off the reel on the next pull?
Yes. That’s pretty much along the lines of what I thought happened. Can’t imagine too much else - there’s no jagged or sharp surfaces anywhere on the reel
ouch. I wouldn’t ask redington to go out of pocket to replace line for that, better off asking SA if there is anything they can do, maybe get a discount on a replacement or something. Sure it happens all the time and it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Fly-lines don’t just separate, so it would have to have been an accident of somesort… but why would you think a manufacturer should be liable for that… Not being an ass really i’m not, but the fact of the matter is you damaged your line, as terrible and inconvenient as that is, and its not up to a company to go out of pocket to replace it for you…
Once again, its hard to read emotion and intention in text form… I really am not trying to be a dick… but sometimes stuff happens and we have to eat it… thats just life man… sorry about the fly-line…

Mike, you’re right - you can’t really read that without sounding like a dick. But I know what you mean and don’t interpret it as such. It was one of those things I got pretty pissed about yesterday because this really couldn’t have happened at a worse time. It’s almost funny how little money I have right now, so it’s a little harder to deal with. But I let the mrs. use this rod/reel if she ever comes fishing (which is next to never), so in the grand scheme of things I can go without it for a while.
Well i’ll tell you what man… we get people who change out lines that are perfectly fine just because they have the money and want to… If I get a good 8wt line that someone doesn’t want, I’ll email you and you can have it free…
I’ll keep my eyes open for ya man, I know what its like to be broke…trust me… lol

Thanks for looking out. I wasnt looking for handouts but at the same time, theyre pretty hard to turn down. I could alway just tie the two pieces together and always keep the line more than 60 or so feet out.
