I am in town for a week visiting from Florida and have been trying to catch some fish with no luck. We are out on the Isle of Palms. I am fishing out of my kayak and did some research ahead of time but I have had a lot of trouble finding fish here. I went out of Sullivan Island the first day and fished high tide looking for tails but saw nothing. I went way back in to a flat with tons of crabs and mullet but blank. Then I went out into gray bay last evening and had no luck again. Does anyone have any suggestions. Am I in the right places or should I be further up in the river?

Kind of hard to figure out in a short time, but fishing docks/piers when the tide is moving is a good idea. Also the flats and any structure you can find. Good Luck.

Take Morgan Creek towards the golf course go under the bridge and catch trout, reds and black drum. That creek has always produced action for me. You can also go south of the icw and get behind Goat Island and I have caught good numbers (not always size).
I have fished behind Tolers Cove and done well. Fished around the oyster mounds back there fishing about 2 hrs after incoming with live bait. It is very shallow in spots, so watch for it.
go w/ a fish finder set up. one rod carolina rigged on bottom w/ bait, another maybe w/ shrimp on popping cork above oyster bar, third active rod double twitch jigging, slow retrieve, zman something scented
Try the docks on the SI side of Breach Inlet off the ICW. Work grass at high in back of docks and between docks. Opposite side grass as well at high outgoing.
That’s all I can tell you without paying the ultimate price.
The routes you took however, should have produced on the proper tide level.
Tigershrk21 also has a plan that works for others.
Heck, I’ve caught fish “trolling” back to IOP landing with my kayak between the bridge on the golf course and the landing with a grub and 1/4 oz jig head similar to trout bumping just for grins on the way in.
Nice to see people on here share and not criticize or insult. just saying…
Thanks for all the tips. Had a little luck. Next time I’ll rent a boat or bring the river hawk
