22’ Mako: Just moved to Summerville from NJ and my father-in-law and I were hoping someone might want to come out with us this Thursday and give us some pointers, show us where to fish. We’re interested in redfish, trout and flounder … also shrimp. We’ve launched from Bushy Park & Limehouse Rd but will launch somewhere else if you have a better place. We’d like to leave between 6 and 7AM.
On second thought, that may be a little hairy for someone who is new to offshore around here. But I tell ya what, flounder haven’t really started moving inshore yet. Wait till the water gets into the upper seventies in about another month. Shrimp will start to hatch in the creeks in june, but they won’t really be worth fooling with till about september when shrimp season starts, unless you use them for bait, live. Redfish are up on the flats right now in large schools and are just now starting to break up and scatter. It will be difficult in 22’ mako to get into the shallow flats. Your best bet is in the harbor. try the grillage or the jetties. You will catch some black drum, black sea bass, bluefish, whiting, big redfish, and the sharks will start moving in to. Also, if you feel comfortable, why not hit some of the nearshore reefs. Spadefish will soon start moving in and that will be a blast on some light tackle. Just do a search on this sight for reefs and you can get all the gps numbers. Some of the reefs are not far out either, like within 5 miles off the beaches. I wish I could go but I am a college of charleston student and I have final exams on thursday and friday. If you want to Saturday, I wouldn’t mind helping you out. Thanks
