Looking to buy a boat in the next month

Hello,
I’m looking to buy a boat soon. I’m looking for something in the $4-7K range. I’d like something between 14-18 feet thats good for fishing shallow waters.
I’d prefer something new enough that it’s build with wood free construction.

I’ve been looking at Key West 1520 or 1720’s and like them, but i’m open to others.

I wouldn’t mind something that I can pole.

I have a headache from searching craigslist all the way down to tampa and back.

I do not want a flat bottom boat.

anyone know something on the market that I might be missing, or know a friend of a friend that has something in their backyard.

LMK
thanks
Joe

Honestly theirs a ton of boats in that market. But if you wait until the off season, after summer but before christmas you’ll be able to get a better deal. Boats are in a huge demand during the warmer months, and you’ll be able to buy the same boat for a cheaper price if you buy it in.the “off season”

There is an awesome app that you can use for craigslist and it searches multiple craigslist locations at once for you. I found my boat that way. You may want to give it a try. I think it is ecraigslistpro or something like that! I am selling my bay boat in the next few days, and would definitely be worth taking a look at. I have been trying to talk my wife into letting me keep both, but she says no! I will send you some details if you are interested.

Thanks for the advice. I picked up an old AshCraft this weekend. For $650, I don’t think I can go wrong.
I’ll fish it til I find a great deal in something fancy. Or not and enjoy a cheap boat.
Now I just need a trolling motor. I have a feeling that’s gonna be more than the boat.

nice. i have a buddy that bought an ashcraft new in high school. he still has it and runs it today (21ish years later). it’s actually a great handling little boat.

Sweet!

My advice is to invest now in a great trolling motor that you can take to your future boat. Like a Riptide 55# I Pilot. It will make fishing in that smaller boat a lot of fun. In small boats you don’t want to be moving all over the place to get to the motor, rigs, bait, etc. With the ipilot you can sit in the back and watch the finder, get bait, and rig all from one chair.

I’m looking for a cheap used Tolling motor. Not very common around here. I may pick up one next time I go to Florida.

Chris V,
The guy I got it from was tough to get any info from. I emailed him for 2-3 days before he would give me his address.
So much, I was suspecting some sort of scam.
Turned out to be a pretty nice kid.

Stono,
I’d say cheap before smart.

I can’t wait to hit the flats

SS you may very well find that that boat is all you need. Many people get a big boat then later get a jon boat so they can get on the flats, then fish the jon 90+ % of the time. I’m one of em.
