Looking to get a Kayak

First I have a few questions. I am 65 yrs old , have back problems but I normally work through the pain. I just want something that will get me fishing, never been in a Kayak. Was also wondering how hard it would be to get it off my truck and in the water.I have a Ranger( 6 ’ bed ) that should be big enough to carry up to 13’ With tailgate opened it is 7’7 " , corner to corner is a little over 8 '.

This seems to be what I need b/c I cant get a boat at this time.

Thanking Ya’ll in advance,

Consider a Native Watercraft. Nice “adult” seating position. I’ve paddled mine 9-10 miles in one trip with no back/butt complaints (I’m middle-aged too!).

I looked at the Native Watercraft and the Wilderness. They both looked like nice kayaks.

I was thinking , which is dangerous for me, that if I backed to the water that I could slide the kayak off. Then on return that I should be able to pickup one end and slide it onto truck. Is this where I cant called dummy or rookie.:sunglasses: Help me out all you great kayakers

Thanks for your help,

If you strapped a carrier to the yak, it would make the back end a little higher and easier to slide into and out of the back of the truck. It would also make it so you don’t have to get as close to the water.

depending on the landing and how slick it was with algae, i didn’t have to much trouble w/ my ride. Especially if i unloaded everything 1st.

bciocco, what kind of carrier are you talking about? Is it attached
to the kayak in the truck? I dont want to have to take my hardtop cover off. I think I found what I need but it takes money for it and a kayak. Money that will take about 3-4 months to save, I dont think anyone will let me make payments on either. I think I found what I need.

I would think with a little looking around @ a place like Northern
You could probably rig up something that would work for alot less money. Might be worth a try

That’s the idea, but you can make one from pvc pipe and a couple of wheels that will slide right up through the scupper holes. I will be making one for mine as soon as I find some plastic wheels. I want it light, so the wheels from habor freight are too heavy.
I have been scouring the neighborhood trash every week for an abandoned fertilzer spreader or “Big Wheel”.

…yea. I’ve made PVC carts, never worked “great”. I saw this on a “…brothern down under” site. http://www.akff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6041Looks awesome. Yea, might rust thru in a few years…just build another.

How would aluminum tubing work with connectors like this:
http://www.boatersworld.com/product/327991667.htm

Could make the whole thing out of stainless for about $60 with stainless tubing and fittings from Boater’s World (not including wheels); aluminum would be about $40. It may be easier to find scrap aluminum tubing in the trash or at the recycler/scrap metal dealer.
