Looking to put my wife on her first red

We keep going to the piers, waterfront park breach and random spots…just no reds or even anything more than puffers pinfish and whiting…
Any advice? We are shore bound for now

Red’s aren’t particularly difficult to catch, especially in the fall.

We routinely catch them off of the IOP pier, using “fresh” Shrimp, Fiddlers, and even cut bait.

Try fishing in, or just behind, the breakers.

Black Drum, and Florida Pompano will be hanging near the breakers, as well.

Since you posted this in the kayak forum, there’s a kayak kiosk over in the Pitts St. Bridge area. While I’ve never fished that area, some mighty fishy looking marsh is near there.

Good luck, and welcome back to the site!!

Keep us posted on your adventures!

When hitting piers that have a grassline (non beach), don’t feel the need to walk to the end…fish the grassline 2hours either side of high tide with an equalizer, should see pretty good action that way. Live shrimp or life finger mullet if possible, or fresh cut bait will be good as well. Good luck!

I used to be a big kayak guy but now im shorebound.
Ive caught lots of reds but my darling wife has not, she has always been a freshwater gal mostly…
