Loop knot connections with fluoro line?

Need some input on using loop knots with straight fluoro line. This question was asked on a bass fishing site by a friend. I rarely use fluoro, but have used loop knots for many years with mono type lines & Yozuri Hybrid.

So, what knots to use, and is there a point, diameter or test wise where it’s not good to use a loop with fluoro?

Appreciate comments on this topic!

I like the non-slip mono knot (Lefty Kreh knot) for mono and fluoro. I don’t usually tie heavier than 30# line with it, but that’s just because I don’t use much more than that. I’ve heard of guys using other knots for heavier stuff, but I’m not sure if it’s for ease of tying, or to try to get the running line more out of the center of the loop or what. I’ll be tying more than a few in the upcoming month to gear up for my Keys trip, but I’ll probably still use the Lefty Kreh knot, but with only 2-3 turns.

Thanks for the reply! I use the Lefty Loop too, but have not with fluoro.

I gotcha. I haven’t tried it with heavier fluoro – I’ll be curious to know how it does. I’ll do some very non-scientific tests before too long. Knots in heavy fluoro… you heading down south soon?

I hope to get to the coast soon. I’m currently in Dallas with my job. Will be back in SC next week. I work out of Myrtle Beach but have not had much time to fish.

Soon I hope!

I’ve been using the non-slip loop with fluoro leaders on anything artificial. I think it allows good movement. I haven’t had any problems with slipping or breaking unless it has been a really bad snag and if the line didn’t break it was getting cut off anyway.

You can have it fast, right, or cheap. Pick two.

I use a perfection loop with flouro up to 60#. It ties fast and easy, is strong and allows a circle hook to do its thing, and allows live bait to move freely. But we do snell sometimes to avoid live baits getting stuck in sides.
