I noticed my lower right (of 4) transom bolts has worked itself slightly loose. Of course when I went to retighten it there was no resistance and it spins. It’s not leaking but I’m wondering if it’s as bad as it appears to get to the nut on the otherside.
Do boat places have some kind of articulated tool for accessing?
It shouldn’t be too bad, somebody had to put those bolts in there and if they can do it, I can:smiley:
Correctly mounted, the bolt heads should be on the inside of the transom, with the nuts on the outside, and there should be 2 nuts, one locking the other. It’s usually a 2 man job, one to hold the wrench inside while one tightens from the outside.
If that bolt is spinning, I’d remove it completely, coat it with 5200 and re-install.
Tarpon, you are talking about the motor mounting bolts, right:question: If so, you can get at them somehow! The motor was mounted, after the boat was built!
Tarpon, use the search function and search for (long armed, small headed, ambidextrous, midget! I think you will find someone that offers that type service!
I use my underwater camera to see in tight a place! I don’t like to use vicegrips all the time but they sure help in tight places where two hands won’t fit.
Thanks for the replies.
That lower bolt wasn’t hard to get at through the bilge hatch and vice grips worked fine. I take back all the negative thoughts I had!
Just a thought. Moisture and cold is what causes freeze / thaw cycles which tearup nearly anything where it happens. I’d get that bolt well sealed box fore letting it get wet.

I’d seal it too, now, before it ever sees water again. It’s not too cold for 5200 to cure, not worth a rotten transom not sealing it. It only take a little water…
