Loosewire on 5/16/09--My first sailfish on video

I fished with HydroTherapy, his son Nick and his son’s friend Chris on Sat. We left the landing at 0400 and had a rough 3 hour trip out in my 22’er, but we made it there and were rewarded with a great day of fishing and a nice surprise…My first Sailfish!

We fished 170’ to 250’, but found the best bite on a nice rip in the more shallow water. We ended up with 21 nice dolphin, 1 stinky and the sail. YES, this was a Step 1 fishing day (for the dolphin anyway) as it was my first, and likely my last trip for the month and possibly until my Ocracoke vacation in June. You can call the Sailfish catch whatever Step you want!

Hey Redeye, that was the 9/0 I just bought from you that reeled the fish in!

Best of all, we had a great time on the water with good friends and SAFE return!

Congrats on the sail.

Congrats on your Sail, good video.

Just one thing, cut the clicker off on the reel next time.

TURN THE CLICKER OFF!!! Your killing me!

Just kidding. Nice fish and congratz.

PS, I think you mean step 2, except for the guy who said “It looks just like the bait, but bigger!” He is on step 1.

Congratulations on the Sail. Nice video.

THE CLICKER THE CLICKER. Is it fryed from that fight. Jeez. Haha nice fish tho. Looked like a fun boat. Whoever grabbed the bill, that was beast. Good job. Hope to be out on the water soon enough.

You know I didn’t even realize the clicker was on until I watched the video. I just knew there was something on the the other end that was bigger than anything else we fought that day.

I got to thinking about last year about the sails we caught. We went 3 for 3 with the 3rd one being the biggest. That is the one that decided to come in the boat with us after a long fight(we thought he was spent).[:0] They sure know how to put on a show!! I’m glad for you!

Congrats on the sail.

As irritating as the “clicker” is, I was taught years ago, by some of best around here, to keep it on while fighting a big fish, esp. a billfish. The operator of the boat is pretty much looking at the back of the angler. Leaving the clicker on lets the captain know that the fish is taking off line. That might not be as much of an issue on a smaller boat, when the captain is in closer proximity to the angler, but when the captain is in the bridge/tower, they want the clicker on, or at least that has been what I have been taught.

Not at all trying to be critical, and by no means is it always able to be done, but when billing a billfish, keeping its bill/head, as low to the water as possible will not cause it to struggle so much and get beat up on the side of the boat.

Again, congrats on your first, and please do not take this post as being “critical” of your efforts.

Yeah, those were “cool”:sunglasses:.

Congrats, great video!!

Amen to the clicker NetGirl. One can always know what the fish is up to by the sound. A King Fish tounement with 2# of drag is a must!

If your not fishin your not livin!

Wow!
