I have a 2000 Johnson 70hp 2-stroke which keeps bogging down and loosing fuel pressure and need some advice on what to do. It started one day on the water and I had to pump the bulb while my buddy drove it back to the ramp. I replaced my fuel lines & bulb because I thought I may be getting air in the lines, put on new H2O seperating filter, etc. But this didn’t fix the problem. I shot a bunch of carb cleaner thru the carbs while running it in the driveway and that helped out a lot, but when I put in in the water it ran great for a minute then started running inconsistent and bogging down again.
Also, a year ago I did a carb rebuild kit on it and it ran great all last summer, so I don’t think it would need another rebuild this soon. And also a year ago my VRO2 pump was acting up so I disconnected the oil resovoir and run a pre mix now. Did that at the same time as the carb kit if that makes any difference.
Did you rebuild the carb before or after having the bogging problems? If the carb were rebuilt previous to having these issues then you need to look at rebuilding the fuel pump. Having to pump the primer bulb to keep it running is a dead giveaway.

You got an internal or external tank? If external does it do it with full tank or when it gets down about 3/4 or 1/2 tank? Also check the connector at the end of hose going to motor. Had one that wore out and didn’t fit properly cause similar issue.
Thought it could be the fuel pump as well, but wanted to get some other opinions 1st since a new VRO2 pump is $400 just for the part. Looks like I may be able to get one cheaper on ebay.
The fuel tank is internal and 1/2 full or all the way full doesn’t matter. Ran the same both ways.
You can purchase a rebuild kit to change the fuel pump diapram and not have to replace the whole pump. From you original post it is difficult to determine what all has been done what order. If it were the high speed jets it wouldn’t run all the time. It sounds like fuel starvation. Either a restriction, stuck float needle valve, or fuel pump.

that motor also has a little VST box/pump thing on the front, that will suck air and have teh same symptom as a bad fuel pump.
you can rebuild part of the VRo pump, but reed section cant be rebuild and if its bad, must be replaced
