Im sure its been discussed by I cant findit. Anyone know of a frree site that will convert my #'s. Thanks
I will convert them for free, and they will be correct. I also am a guy who only fishes a half-dozen times a year and has over 6,000 numbers off SC. So it isn’t like your spots will be affected by me having seen the numbers.
PM me if you’re interested. Converted correctly is a bit more complicated than most people will explain. Truth is that you can convert the easy way and get close enough to find stuff if it was a big area of bottom to start with. To convert precisely takes someone who has done quite a few conversions and then checked them for accuracy on the water.

Oh, and by the way, I tought Phin how to do the conversions. Just to see if he remembers THE PROPER way to do the conversion, you may want to consider sending the numbers to me, too, just so I can check and make sure it was done right the first time.

Don’t most GPS units convert them for you? I have a Garmin 498 and it converts them so I’m sure that the higher end GPS units used for offshore fishing will do it too. But hey if you want to send me your numbers I will put them in my GPS too!

Hmmmmm, kinda makes ya wonder then just how you got all those 6000 spots!! j/k
You can plug the numbers into most GPS’s and it will convert them accuratly enough for 99% of ones useage. You do have to enter the proper Loran chain and take into count the offsets which will change geographically. Arden software makes a pretty good program for converting, it will take care of the offsets for you as well as increasing its accuracy with the more points you list and confirm.

I have the Garmin 2010 and can’t find where it converts looking through the manual. Its not a bunch of numbers so not too worried about sharing with someone that offers a hand. Thanks all
I wouldn’t be worried at all either, I was just giving Phin a hard time bout that statement! From what I’ve heard him say on here, he seems to know the ins and outs of Loran to GPS pretty good!
The Garmin 2010 does have a Loran “position format”. You will need to know the Loran chain number and the two secondary towers used to record the position you wish to convert to Lat/Lon or navigate to. Once you have set up your GPS for Loran TDs using “position format”, you will be able to enter your Loran TD positions. You can then switch the GPS back to Lat/Lon “position format”, and the coordinates will be converted. As stated tho, there will be some position error.

Most of what I’ve got is stuff I have found while looking for conversions before I had enough information to zero them in good enough to not have to look so much. Ironic…
The second source of what I’ve got is from family’s old books.
And then 500 spots are DNR structure (which I will sell anybody an electronic file containing for $40.00). Then, you’ve got a few hundred or so maps unique spots.
Then, you must also remember I fished a good bit with a certain charter captain a few years ago who liked to fish LOTS of different spots in any given trip, and we constantly would be looking for and finding bottom to fish later if not that day. If you get to know your sonar and put your time in, it isn’t hard to get up to a few thousand spots.

Top2- I would like to catch up with you on Folly some time. New to this area (Stono Inlet).hope to follow someone out of the inlet the correct way! Livin on 2nd & E Erie
Sure thing, can dang near run that in my sleep (I think I have some mornings!) For the most part when running it at dark I’m navigating it “electronically” relying primarily on GPS and radar but that’s only with a Garmin or Furono unit!!
