Got the yak out around 1030. Paddled to spot. Looked real fishy. I put out a poppin cork with 4ft ldr with mm around some rocks. Casted my other rod with plastic twice and the poppincork was screaming! It took out a bunch of line. Started to fight it, broke off. $@#^*! it still had cork attached. i see it for awhile then gone. Wait 45min to see it come back, meanwhile missing a 25 or 26in at yak. cork reappears! It is over in the weeds thrashing a little. I hook the cork with my other rod somehow it holds and he rips off more line. Got all the way to having my hand on the cork! Excited as hell! Snap!! Broke the line and my heart! Ended missing three and landing a 17in. and a small flounder. Good times
Cool story! Sorry you lost the biggun…

Do you use braid? I now use heavy braid on all my rods. I got tired of losing the beast of the trip to break-offs.

Nice story! Sucks about expensive cork though! I use a little less # strength leader than my mainline ex 20# braid to cork to 15# leader, that way I can normally get my cork back!
You look pretty angry holding that fish though, musta been right after you lost the biggun!
Yakman. I do use 20#braid on almost all my poles with 15 or 20# mono for leader especially when throwing arties. The pole i had the poppin cork on had only 20#mono. Same for leader from cork. I did manage to keep the cork. He snapped about 3ft down leader. Hahaha! Yeah that little guy came about 15 min after big miss. I was still a little disappointed! I couldn’t stop thinking about it all weekend. It was pretty cool that i almost was able to bring that fish in after he broke off and came back later on.
