Lost my anchor just inshore of the buoy by the grillage:dizzy_face: Gonna go buy a new one; now for some questions,
1- What kind or size?
2- Why the chain and what size and length
3- How much rope, plan on fishing the reefs so I think 200ā?
Just always threw the thing over and never gave it much thought!!
If you are going to fish the reefs, you may want to consider a mighty mite anchor. The prongs will straighten out when you pull it free and prevent you from losing the anchor, most of the time anyway.

Gotta have a reef anchor if fishing the grillage. I love my MitiMite.
I keep a danforth in the anchor locker with 6ā of chain and 100ā of rope. I have a shackle on the end and an additional 100ā of rope stored in case I need it.
When fishing, I also carry a MitiMite stored in a 20 Kg (5.5 gallon) bucket with 6ā of chain and 400ā of rope.
Thatās probably not enough chain on either, but it seems to be sufficient so far.

I have a āhome madeā reef anchor that I do not use nor need. The old man got it from someone in the Power Squadron who makes them. Shoot me a PM if you wanna set up a time to come get it. You will need to buy a shackle for it.
You can make your own pretty cheap.
A little rebar or aluminum stock, a pipe, and some jbweld and concrete and youāre in there.
Hereās one that I made a while back for my 20ā Walkaround.
I used it on the reefs all the time, and it never slipped, but was easy to retrieve when I needed it.
Happy boatinā yāall!!
Not looking to sell it. Just need it gone. Donāt want to throw it out. Iām sure someone here can use it.
Sorry Half-Hitched, I was in the process of uploading that pic when you put that offer out there.
I never even saw your post.
Thatās very thoughtful of you.
Happy boatinā yāall!!

What could you build one of those for?

The cost would be minimal. I would just have to price the 3/8"-1/2" alum. solid bar and a little concrete and a little labor. The 1 1/2" pipe I probably have in my scrap barrel. I canāt see it being more than about $30.00-$40.00, if that.
āEdited to say, if I make more than one at a time, the price would go down.ā

Yeah, that looks a whole lot better than my homemade rebar anchor (fashioned after the DNR website instructions). I even slathered mine with silicone to keep rust and sharp edges downā¦looks like crapā¦appears to work - but I like youārn better.

Bonzo,
I went extremely low cost on this one.
First, the stock came from a piece that Bob gave me to test fit my outriggers that Bob was working on.
The legs all came from a Home Depot.
I bought 3 3ā pieces of 3/8" AL rod and a block of that JB Weld that you just pinch off and knead.
I bent the rodās in half (I used the ball on my hitch to make the drop loop.
I put all 3 of the rods together to make the legs, and worked the JB Weld into it so they wouldnāt come apart.
Then slide them into the pipe until the drop loop hit the top of the pipe.
Added some JB Weld to the top, bent the legs out and VI-O-LA!!
Easy to do, only took about 20 minutes, and doesnāt rust at all.
Itās light weight, so itās easy to store.
Just make sure you have a heavy duty chain if youāre dropping it in deep water.
If you canāt find the aluminum stock, you could use a heavy duty piece of PVC or a galvanized pipe from a chain link fence.
It works well, but Iām sure Bob could make one that looks a lot better.
Happy boatinā yāall!!
Iāll take one of those for $40. Thatās a deal.
Iāll make a couple up this week. Iāll give you the best price I can.
Donāt back out on me guys.
Iāll be in touch.
Thanks, Bob
