Oh my…on the 6 wt!
It was mighty fine this AM…caught 9 OTF and missed several more.
Very aggressive fish and had two jump clear out of the water on the hook set in about 1 foot of water.
Favorite eat of the day…Dropped the fly a to a fish cruising straight at me…over shot him about a foot and the fly landed on his left shoulder. He rolled around and gobbled it up!
Biggest of the day was about 25 inches.
did ya have any problems getting them in on the 6wt…i have a 6wt and have been dieing to pick off a red on it but everyone says ill probably kill the fish bringing him in on it
I don’t see it as being “more sporty” using my 6, I just love casting my 6 and I fish it well.
If you have caught plenty of fish on your 8 or whatever, knock yourself out! You will not have a harder time nor will you kill fish because you caught it on a 6 wt.
I landed every fish today in probably under 3 minutes, plopped them back in the water, and they swam away.
Nuff said…fish on!
Hey calibogue how do you set the hook with a fly rod is it just like setting the hook with a regular fishing pole. I have a st. croix 6 wt that i took out to the flats and had a black spoon on. an 18 inch red chased it so hard his head came out of the water when he swirled.
It’s called a “strip set”…when the fish takes you strip hard to bury the hook, don’t jerk up on the rod!
You should have your stripping hand on the line anyway so it becomes natural over time.
FYI, I fish these tailing reds with a pinched down barb…easy release upon hand.

Now why haven’t you taken me to that flat?
Boys, this fella throws a six further than I throw an eight. I know it’s more about backbone of the rod and getting the fish in but I can assure you Bogue is successful on all fronts.

TB…are you certain it isn’t one I have taken you to?
Probably saw 100 fish on this flat this AM!

Upon further inspection of the shots I believe you were kind enough to show me that flat. Did you get out anymore on that set? Tried PI down from Estil Beach on Wednesday. Water made it up but the fish stayed on the fringe garbaging bait. I’d see 'em blow up but there was no way to track them. Thinking that two weeks of tides had them full.

TB,I did not as I have only fished the grass 4 times this summer but they have been very kind to me!
Landed a total of 21 fish on those 4 outings but should have been WAY more…looking forward to October though!

Gotta ask what was the name of the fly in the pick
Dunno…never officially named it!
It is one color variation of a rattle shrimp pattern I have been tying for a few years.
