Last week I saw an article in the costal angler magazine about baby tarpon getting into saltwater impoundments and ponds here in the low country. I have researched this topic and I haven’t been able to find too much information about where and how to find them. I have access to both Kiawah and Seabrook resorts along with the numerous ponds on both islands. I guess my question is : how do I determine which pond out of the 100s of ponds out there holds tarpon. Do I have to fish each one or can I spot the tarpon in the pond at certain times? I know this is a secretive subject but any information is appreciated. Thank you , Jes Swicegood
PS ( feel free to PM me anything that you are not comfortable posting)
Thanks again , Jes Swicegood

Well I heard the cement pond mt pleasant, brickyard, the ponds in the crescent, the kiawah golf ponds, the ponds on Iop, and some secret pond on johns Island. Personally I would try any of the ponds that connect to the stono, because this is the waterway I most commonly catch them. I usually catch them as by catch catching mullet in the cast net, they swim with the schools to blend in and use them as disguise to surprise smaller bait fish. The biggest I catch is about 2#s 20 inches or so but I could easily see some of the smaller ones holding residence until they get larger, supporting evidence in my mind is most you catch are about a ft and then you catch some about 20 so obviously out of 2 different spawns. Tarpons roll and bust the water and jump so if you think you just saw a 4ft mullet leap its a tarpon.

Thanks for the information- I will have to give some of those a try one day.
