Had to get out and try some flies I tied on the new vise I got for Christmas. Nothing seemed interested in anything I tied except a black Chrystal Bugger I stripped in a run. Lost both fish I hooked but they were the best ones I had on today. Did catch a few on a size 20 nymph and several on a dry. Over the course of a couple hours there were a couple BWO hatches that were pretty significant. Those new fish still have a lot of growing to do. There was still lots of grass in the river!! Over all not bad. How was Bulls Bay Jeremy?
Glad you got out there and got your feet wet. Ahh cant win them all. Let me know next time your heading up there and well get a plan together. Today was just awesome…awesome I tell you.
Jeremy
i was there, grew up down the street. any trout over 6"? it seems to us, all the holdovers were eaten or died w/ the water temp last year.
All the fish I caught or lost were this years new releasees. Three were around 8 to ten inches. Give two months and they will be fun! They grow upwards of an inch or more a month there. There was definetly plenty of food in the river. Found all sorts of nymps under the rocks and there were plenty of bugs on the water. Everything seems to change there every year so I will have to relearn the spots I catch my holdovers in. MAybe a few of us from the site can get together and make it a trip one day.
of the dozen or so we released b/f I was called to the fam. on xmas- 3 had bite marks- evidence of the pickrel in the system. we have caught them to about 24" on no6 olive buggers. these poor trout had gashes- gashes- and were still rising and attacking drys. darwin. I’ll be on em sat. am. (my fiance live in Cola. and sleeps late)
Let me know how you do. I’d be up there to but my father and I are putting on a rabbit hunt Sat. By the way what area do you fish when you go up there Scotty? Good luck.
