Lower unit help!!!!!!!

Ok so I got a new water pump impeller for my nissan 9.9b. Did a lot of research on the R and R of the impeller. So I disconnect the shift linkage then remove the 4 bolts and the lower unit wont fall. I tried tapping with a rubber mallet. then tried using a 2x4 with a steel hammer still nothing. No gap at all either. I either need a tip to help me get if off or directions to someone who will not over charge me to get it off and change the impeller. I dont think the motor has ever had the lower unit off. I have the service manual also so dont tell me to get that.

There’s another bolt holding it together. Remove the sacrificial anode (the aluminum fin right above the prop) and check under it. Also the linkage may be holding it as well. Without looking at it or having a diagram I cant tell you for sure, but that’s usually the case on most outboard.

No tried that already and the linkage is disconnected.

I didn’t see anything obvious, but here’s a diagram. I’m not sure what year yours is, but I hope this helps.

It is a 1991. I have the same diagram. I also have the manual that says remove 4 nuts and the unit should drop. Im out of ideas.

Sounds like it’s seized from corrosion.
If your motor has the “stud” in the front of the lower unit, that is likely the culprit.
Soak it with PB-Blaster for a day or two, spray it several times a day then try to remove it. WD40 won’t help, you need PB-Blaster or Aero-Kroil.

What points should I spray the lube to get to where it is binding up.

Look at the above parts drawing and see part #24. These are alignment studs that often corrode. That the location you want to spray. It’s also possible that the drive shaft is frozen at the powerhead, which isn’t an easy fix. Sometimes the only thing to do is get a rubber mallet, a block of wood, and beat the snot out of it.

It’s always good to drop the lower unit once a year, just so you can when you have too.

Just re-read your original post.
If you have no seperation at all, you likely have another bolt still holding. Once all bolts are out you should be able to achieve at least a little seperation at the rear of the housing simply due to the “bending” or “flexing” of the drive shaft.

It looks like there is a hole in the front of the midsection that is access to a nut. Check in there.

No ALL bolts are out. Unless there is a bolt on the top side not allowing it to drop. I have checked and checked to make sire all bolts are out. I got this motor used from a guy who never dropped the lower unit. So it does not budge at all.

On top, very front of the lower unit. Hole in midsection looking down onto L/U.

Tigerfin there is nothing there on mine that bolt is on larger motors.

Check your PM.

Double D.

sounds like the alignment pins are corroded in place
try to drive a steel chisel between the midsection and the lower unit right beside the pin, after heating the area.
