I have some oil leaking out of a weep hole on my 2002/225 HP Yamaha 4 stroke. I know I have to replace a seal, just don’t know which one. I’ve been told that you should have a lower unit looked at and the seals replaced every few years. Is there a rule of thumb on that or just when you see something wrong? I’m also going to have it pressure tested. From what I can find out, there are 5 seals in the unit. I plan to have them all replaced. Any help on a time table for maintance will help me out!
is it gear lube(greenish in color) or engine oil? make sure to check your engine oil as well, get it checked out soon to prevent further damage
like spareparts said, make sure its not motor oil
those motors will leak oil around the lower crankshaft seal, and it will run down the driveshaft, puddle around the waterpump and leak out the weep hole.
a crankshaft sleeve can be installed to repair the leak without having to remove or replace the crankshaft
Thanks guys! I’ll check out that crankshaft sleeve fix.
