lower unit or prop noise?

Just got back off the water. Was putting the boat on the trailer running the motor up about 1/4 throttle to get it up to the bow roller. Suddenly I heard this loud, rapid succession clicking. It almost sounded like it was trying to slip into nuetral. I immediately backed off the throttle, went into neutral, back into forward, throttled back up and no noise that time. I have no idea what that noise was. I am afraid to find out. Tomorrow at first light I will check the LU fluid and check it out. I just changed it about 3 weeks ago and have used the boat several times since then. The prop turns freely in neutral, turns the appropriate direction in forward/reverse and not the opposite direction like it’s supposed to. What is this?/what’s causing it? Thanks

if a cable gets stretched or out of adjustment, it can do just what you described
