I went to change my lower unit oil and the last person to change it was the strongest person in the world. With 2 slips with a big screw driver, the flathead screw is now unusable. Short question, will it drain without taking the vent screw out? I know it will take a while, but will it drain? I just want to change my oil now and worry about fixing the screw later, thanks.
chances are it will not drain if it gets air locked, that is the reason for the vent screw, another thing would be temperature and viscosity of the oil… sharp chisel and small hammer to tap it with,

These things work wonders on stuck screws. This is a cheapo but for all the more an average person would use it, it should work fine.

Those impact screwdrivers work wonders on stuck screws
2nd ^^^^^^ Impact cordless drill first, then screwout type tool.
It’s amazing what those impact drivers can get out.
No it will not drain all the way. Also will not be able to fill it back up with oil with it in there. If you don’t remove that screw there will not be enough lower unit oil in there and you will burn it up. Impact wrench will work or drop lower unit and take it to a shop to get it out.

Had this problem a year ago on a 15hp Johnson. Neither screw would budge. I jumped thru a bunch of hoops all to no avail. Save your money. Get a 3/8 or 1/2" cold chisel with a clean edge and a small/med hammer. Set in the slot at a 45 and aim ccw. About 3 medium licks in the proper direction will break it loose. It comes loose so easy that way you wonder WTF? Comes right out with a screwdriver then. Will have some white crusty corrosion that caused the problem. Changed oil - cleaned the screws up used them again.

Thanks for all the help, i’ll get on it soon.
Left handed/twist drill bit smaller than vent screw. This may get it out. If not use an easy out or screw extractor to remove. Should come out.
I would then flush the lower unit to remove any shavings. I may even run one or two times then replace oil again just to be sure all debris is removed.
Good luck.
