Got the new technology Chirp unit but kept the old transducer with adapter. Unit stops reading bottom ALOT at higher speeds. Never had that happen with old unit.Any suggestions??? I’m thinking I should have bought the transducer that comes with unit but Lowrance customer service said it would work.
Try lowering the transducer to get it more below the water surface.

Are you running it on regular sonar while underway or DI? I don’t think DI will pick up at speed. The beam is too narrow.

Geronimo, I can’t even use DI since I didn’t get ducer that came with unit. I was trying to save some $$.
I thought the chirp was also a different ducer. The unit will work with other ducers but to use it as chirp i thought u had to have the chirp ducer. I may be wrong but thought i had read that somewhwre

Sounds like you just left the old xducer in place that was working well at high speed?
I don’t think there is any special xducer requirement for chirp since it is just working at a spectrum of frequencies within the standard range of a typical 50 or 83 / 200. Have you only tried
running in chirp mode? Not that I would think it should matter, but If so, I’m sure you can turn it off and try running at a set
200K and see if it does any better. Not an acceptable solution, but may be good to know if you wind up having to contact lowrance
Even if you haven’t moved the xducer, you still may want to adjust it as already mentioned above. If it looks like it should be at the right depth, you might want to play with the angle as well. Try increasing speed until you loose bottom and if you can get a bottom reading again by trimming the boat up or down you may just need to adjust the angle of the xducer.

To learn the ins and outs of the chirp systems read the artical in Boating Mag / chirp sonar, it will clear up all of the above!
I am having good luck reading bottom running at 83khz. At high speed the screen is a little more cluttered than it was with old unit but I can live with that. Thanks guys.
Down Imaging does work at speed. Here is a screenshot taken at 39 mph. Boat doesn’t go much faster.
