Lowrance 50/200 vs 83/200

I just ordered an Elite 7, however they are all out of the 83/200/455/800 transducer. I understand this is the smaller less powerful transducer that is preferred in shallow water.

However, the larger more powerful 50/200/455/800 is more expensive. But not sure if it is still want I want. Has anyone had any experience in the difference of those 2 transducers on reading Murray depths. It seems like everyone buys the smaller 83/200 ducer, so i doubt anyone can help, but figured I would check in case.

Thanks,

I have a 83/200 on mine and run at 200 most of the time, but occasionally go to 83 when I want to take advantage of he wider cone angle.

Keep in mind that the cone angle on the 83/200 is considerably (about 40%) larger than a 50/200 at both the lower freq and at 200 as well.

83/200 xducer: 83 (60 degrees), 200 (20 degrees)

50/200 xducer: 50 (35 degrees), 200 (12 degrees)

Personally, I would wait on a 83/200.

I had the 50/200 on my HDS until it burned up, was off of my old lms337cdf and now I have the 83/200. I actually liked the other one better as it had a better resolution even on 200kHz. I never even used it at 50kHz, but it did give me a better image. I bought another one, but just haven’t installed it yet. I will sell the 83/200 transducer when I get around to changing it out again, but who knows when that will be.

The problem is, I bought this unit on a crazy clearance price as I don’t think they are making this unit anymore. I think all the new ones have CHiRP. They just sent the tracking info, so either I have to go through the hassle of making them change it, or just go with it.

I think you’d be happy with the bigger transducer. It has a narrower angle, but the definition is better. If you got the unit at a crazy good price, then you should probably just stick with it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

If you don’t like it you can sell your transducer and buy the 83/200. Bassboatcentral always has a lot of electronics for sale.
