Got our new goodies Saturday and hopefully we’ll get them installed this week. Powered up the Elite 7 in the garage (well, actually in the driveway so I could get enough satellite signals) to make an initial checkout. Loaded a few settings that were recommended from the internet, however, if any of you Lowrance people have any recommended initial settings, sure would appreciate them.
Have to get to the boat to see if my Navonics Premium MMC chip in the Humminbird actually slides apart to become a Micro SD so I can use it. Have my fingers crossed.
Michael, I’ve had mine since the begiining of the year, but to be honest I really haven’t taken much time to do a lot of tuning with it. I turn off the auto sensitivity and adjust to where I want it.
Make sure you have it set up for the right transducer. If you have the latest software, the set up menu selection will show you pics of the compatable transducers and you just select it. The latest software is ver 2.0. That came out about a monthe ago, so depending on how long it was sitting in a wharehouse, it may or may not be up to date. It’s easily done if needed. I believe it has some enhancements in the new sw for navionics.

There may not be a lot of info available on setting up an Elite 7, as lots of folks were asking questions about it on the internet. While I suspect out of the box settings will work fine to get one started, we manually set several items per a list on Lowrance’s Facebook(?) page.
Had a moment of shock when I found my Navionics MMC chip would not fit in the micro SD lot for the Elite 7, but then learned that a micro chip was just inserted into the MMC card, so pulled it out and fit fine. Next quest was to get the Elite 7 to recognize it. After digging, went into the Chart Menu and under Charts, switched from Lowrance to Navionics.
There is a lot to be desired in the Operators Manual for the Elite 7. Many things are no more than Menu Listings with no description of operation. Where has the good tech writing gone?
Had Charlie from THEBOATBIZ install MK I Pilot and new fishfinder. He did a really great job.
Went out this morning on a quick shakedown cruise alone (I wanted to make all of my dumb mistakes when Patti wasn’t in the boat with me).
What a great complimentary piece of equipment we have now. It makes me feel like our prior fishing was done in the stone age. As we use it more, I’m sure we’ll do some tweaking to try and learn from it.
Found fish, lots of fish in several different spots at 30-40 feet. Looking forward to Saturday.
It’s really unbelievable how little information they provide with that unit. My previous unit was an Eagle 462C and the manual it came with had details on every function it was capable of. Navigating through the menus is fairly intuitive if you’ve owned Lowrance/Eagle products before, but since you had a Hummingbird it may not be as obvious.
I’m no expert, but can run through some of the basic stuff with you Saturday if you want.
