The chart/gps on this unit seems to work fine when you first turn it on, but it quickly seems to lockup as far as the gps positioning goes. I can turn the unit off and back on and it picks back up my new position, but the gps screen quickly locks back up. The sonar works fine. I’ve looked at the satellite page and it appears to be connected to numerous satellites, even when locked up. Any suggestions?

X2, also call the factory and ask them, they may suggest a soft reset…can’t hurt to try! Definitely do the software update first though. Keep us posted

Ok, so I’m a bit of a computer and gadget idiot, so forgive me…I don’t have an SD card reader or a blank SD card. Would these have come with the lowrance when it was new? If I buy new a new SD card reader and SD Card, are they universal or do I need to make sure it’s specifically compatible with the HDS 7? I think mine is 1st Gen…thanks for the help.
Just a standard 2gb+ blank sd card. Can get them on amazon for 5$ or so. They will cost double that if you pick them up locally. Also you will need someway to read it. Either sd card slot on your laptop or you can buy a separate reader. Again, online will be 1/2 price. Something about electronics and China. lol

Are you using a navionics card? If so, the sd card you need will look just like it. More than likely it will be a micro sd card(just like what goes in your cell phone)in an sd adapter.I got mine at Walmart.
Like Stumpknocker said, it’s not too difficult to do. (I did it:wink:) There’s a how to video on the Lowrance site and you can also see some on YouTube.

Super helpful, I will give it a shot. I also just figured out that my laptop has a SD reader, so I should be good. I’ll report back after I get to it…hopefully it will fix the problem. Thanks for all the help!
Ok, I downloaded the update to the SD card and I also checked the system on the Lowrance. It definitely did not have the most recent update. However, when I went to insert the SD card into the HDS-5 (yes, it’s a 5 and not an HDS-7 like I originally thought), I found a Navionics card already in the unit. So, I pulled it out, and put in the SD card that had the download/update on it, and turned on the unit…I won’t know if it fixed the problem until next time I use the boat, but should I put the navionics card back in, or just leave it out??
Did your unit go through the update process like on the how to video?

The avionics card is probably the charts. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but thats what it was on my HDS7 touch.
