Lowrance HDS 8

Went fishing Saturday and notice my temp gauge was reading a little higher than I thought it should but thought I found a really nice temp break . As the day went on it kept creeping up all day until it maxed out at 126 degrees. Anyone out there ever seen this? Any clue what would cause this? Maybe a bad transducer?

Which transducer are you running? I had a 50/200kHz deep water transducer on mine and eventually the bottom melted off after about 7 years. The temp did just what you are describing until thetransducer all out failed.

Also be sure to tell the head unit which trans you’re running…try calling support hotline too maybe

Tigerfin, I have noticed that my bottom is not as clear and doesn’t pick up as good as it used too. Thanks. Stump I had to do that last year so I do have the correct ducer selected. Good call though. I guess I will be looking for a new transducer.

Anyone have a recommendation on what kind of transducer to upgrade to?

Just put a transducer on mine two weeks ago and I have an HDS8 with sonar and sidescan…I used the Lowrance part number 106-77 for the regular sonar transducer - its a dual frequency 50/200.
A tip…Look on the transducer tag that plugs into the back of your HDS8 unit. It should have some text on it. Mine said “HST-DFSBL” - part number 106-77 was what I needed based on this. Any cable that you get needs to have the blue plug.
Hope this helps.

Hey Tigerfin…Curious…did it get ever get left on out of the water for any period of time? I know that can burn them up.
Just asking. I haven’t seen one burn up like that.

I had a “capacitor” for my Lenco trim tabs explode behind my dash once that looked like your transducer! Scared the heck out of me. Sounded like a gun shot.

No, it wasn’t left on, I remove my unit after every trip at the landing. I think it was just old age. I noticed that I could actually hear the transducer chirping from inside the boat a few trips before it finally gave out. I never noticed how the transducer looked until it failed.

Roger that. Good info. Guess they all wear out at some point. 7 years is a pretty good run.

Thanks Guys for the info. I went ahead and ordered an Airmar P66 Yesterday. Had some mixed reviews on it but most were good. We will see in the next weather window how she does.

I had the bottom fall off of mine a couple of years ago too. Never figured out why. ??? Mine is ether netted together between an HDS 7 and a 5. My units come off as soon as my boat hits the trailer. I just bought another ducer and rolled on.
