lowrance lms 520c map problem

I did the software update on my Lowrance LMS520c a few months back and ever since then, the water and land are both white on the map. This makes it extremely difficult to read at quick glance. Im using a nautic path np-usa card. Under the map options, there is a tab that says fill water with white, but everything is white whether the tab is checked or not. If I take the map card out, the water is blue and land is brown. As soon as I put the card back in, it reverts back to all white.

The weird thing is, I remember when I first bought it years ago, I had the same issue, and I cant remember for the life of me how I got it to work. I contacted lowrance, and they were no help at all. The guy said it didn’t make sense and he had no clue what could be done about it.

Lowrance products usually get mixed reviews, I have owned two, one was ok, the last was junk. Lowrance customer service was a joke.

Recently looking for a GPS systems, I’ve come to realize this also.

Yeah… My next will not be a lowrance

Ranger, worse case, you should be able to find out what was “fixed” in the latest version of software and see if it’s anything you really care about. It may just affect some functions you don’t use. If that’s the case, you could always flash back to the version that was working for you.

Also, if you haven’t done so already since updating the sw, it may be worth looking through the menu and there is probably a selection to “Reset To Factory Default Settings”…or something like that.

Better put a new SD card in there and save all your numbers before you try the reset to Factory Defaults thing!

I asked tech support about doing a factory reset and he told me it wouldnt erase the software update. Makes no sense to me. I Think this guy was clueless

Setting back to defaults would never be expected to revert back to the previous software. It would just clear out your current settings and set them back to the default settings the system shipped with when new. To change the SW back to the previous version you would need to go through the same procedure you did to upgrade, only load the previous version of SW.

I know that for my old Eagle I had before my current Elite-7, I could hold down 2 buttons and then turn it on and would clear out everything including my way points.

Looking at the 520C Manual, it looks like you can do an “Options Reset” without loosing your way points.

This is from page 179 of the owners manual.
