Let me start by saying I have looked at the previous threads about this and have learned some things already. There was a good post from Phin about it in particular. I can get a 441s for the same price as an HDS 5. I willbe using the unit more for its charting capabilities than as a sounder. If I could get a 541s for the same price as the HDS5, I’m pretty sure I would go Garmin. That extra inch really makes a difference… Isn’t the Garmin better for charting and the Lowrance better for fish finding? Thanks.
I’ve heard that before. This will probably be a Ford vs. Chevy routine but I will be sticking with Garmin myself. The last two times I needed to call Garmin support, I got a tech on the phone in less than 10 seconds and they were very helpful. I had a Lowrance depth finder on my last boat and didn’t have any issues but two people I trust, my brother and my best friend, both said they got zero help from Lowrance support people for their chart plotters and will not allow a Lowrance on their boat. YMMV
