I fished Little River Friday and for the first half of the day I didn’t even get a bump. But, at about noon my luck changed. I ended up with a handful of stripers and a couple dozen trout. Not sure why the first half of the day was not producing, but I was happy to get what I did. Looks like fall bite is finally rolling.
Nice day out there!!! I wanted to go, but I had to work. Made it out on Sunday and hit the reds and flounder pretty good with one trout. Caught a 25-30 lb black drum that was fun on my little flounder rod. I think the fall bite will be in full swing come this week, if it isn’t already.
Finn, were the stripers hitting the normal artificials?
secret lures Gooze
Ok…just messin with you Gooze…I am strictly an artificial guy. I caught stripers on stretch-type lures. I used some of my heavy grubs and jig heads that I normally catch them on, but didn’t seem to get them to bite those. The plugs seemed to be the trick. I will tell you that the pleasure traffic was horrible though. I believe I could have caught a few more if I didn’t have to dodge all of the dang yachts.
As for the trout, I used 4-5 different lures from hard and soft baits to see what they seemed to like the best and there was the usual preferences in color. Nothing any different than I use any other time of year anywhere. I am going back Friday again. I will probably fish for both again in the rain it looks like.
Thanks man, and good luck! I’ll be confined to my office dreaming of screaming drags from redfish, and, now, the ever elusive stiper!!!
Went to LR jetties yesterday. What a beautiful day. Clam waters and light breeze. Caught 8 flounder but with only one keeper. Also caught what would have been a cooler full of the endangered black seabass if they had been legal size. No reds or trout but saw many caught by others. Got to get my motor repaired so I can go when I get the urge and don’t have to wait for an invitation. Good luck to all and be safe out there.
