Well, more specifically the type of line used to tie and snell those type hooks for replacement on jigs. What type of line is it and where can I purchase it in a spool? Been using the Raku, Ebi, Lucanus and Diawa Conch jigs with good success this year but I always seem to get a rig where the hooks get bitten off, I’d like to be able to prepare my own without spending $10.00 for a set of replacements.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Pardon my ignorance and don’t want to hijack the thread, but what’s the purpose of snelling hooks? I know how to do it, but I’ve never known what purpose it serves and when to do it. Please explain.

I only snell circle hooks with off-set eyes. In-line eyes will rub your leader and could possibly wear through during a prolonged fight. Instead of having a single loop running through the eye of a hook, a snell gives you a more established connection to the shank of the hook. I also like to think that a snelled circle hook seats and holds better in a fish’s jaw bc it is not swinging freely at time of hook set.
This is all my observed opinion so take it for what its worth.
Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.
Dan at Cape May Tackle is a friend. That being said, try to buy local. Blue water candy sells it and your local shop should have it. It is kevlar assist cord.
