Lyme Disease; definitely here

I’m taking Doxycycline, 100mg, twice daily for the next two weeks. Got a big bullseye rash on top of a tick bite that I found last Friday morning. I soaked the little prick in alcohol hoping he’d back out. I lost patience and just jerked him out like I’ve done a dozen times before. Stupid idea, I should have done this properly.

Anyhow, I’m pretty sure I picked up the unwelcome hitchhiker in North Charleston near Dorchester Rd.

Add to that, I also have an enormous amount of nausea and vomiting that seem to be a stomach bug, not Lyme Disease. It’s the stomach bug that put me in the doctors office, and I noticed the bullseye rash this morning.

If you find any ticks on you, remove them properly and then cuss them for all they are worth before burning their pathetic little selves and giggling maniacally. Do it for me please!:imp:

Lyme disease is bad stuff, and many MDs discount it. Spend an hour googling it if you haven’t done so already. I would err on the side of caution if I were you. My wife has been fighting it for years. And I promise to give any ticks that I encounter the Redfish Matt treatment…that cracked me up.

definitely get a specialist to weigh in on that. supposedly there are not any rodents that carry the disease but… just sayin, you better go to a doc that absolutely nails it as lyme disease. It’s effects are very long term and not good

Well, there’s no doubt that it’s Lyme, the bullseye rash isn’t caused by anything else. I’ll take your words into consideration about the Lyme specialist. Thanks!

Hard to believe but it is definitely here. My 2 year old daughter got it last year (we are in Riverland Terrace). Took months to get her back up at the normal 2 year old energy level. Really scared my wife and I. My first thought was ring worm so we went in thinking that was all. Dr. ran test and confirmed lyme. Fortunately we caught it early.

Sunday my sisters neighbor (2 doors down) had there little boy at MUSC with it. They live in Byrnes Down right across the ICW from my house.

I heard a 30 min special on NPR about Lyme Disease. Dr Steere at Boston Univ Hospital is a specialist and considered to be the top research guy in treatment and research. Dr Steere said it was important to have a blood test done asap to verify the disease and that it is very difficult to detect and treat if not addressed quikcly after the initial exposure. Here is a link to their program:

One of the earliest symptoms is nausea and “severe flu-like” sickness. Antibiotics are the early treatment but has to be ongoing according to the program. Hope this helps you and any others that may be exposed.

I’m a doctor and have known Lyme’s disease to be here despite what I was taught in school. Deer travel, rodents travel, people travel… Geographical diseases will soon be a thing of the past due to the ease of interstate and international travel.

If you are having nausea after starting the Doxycycline, it’s likely to be the Doxycycline.
