Story
Captain Lynn and I wanted to head offshore but the 4x4’s changed our mind so we decided to give the topwater a try again on my old 1975 mirro craft. Tuesday night I pulled her over to his house to get lights running whilst he finished maintenance on the Miss Amanda. It seemed as if it could go wrong it did on my old boat. We didnt know weather to spend the next morning fishing or fixing but we made the right choice.
Left at 5am and headed right to the super secret spot ; ) Lights worked and motor ran ; ) Right off the bat I caught a blue not much bigger than the spook. Next Lynn caught his first topwater red and she was in the slot so we eased her in the drink cooler. Wasnt expecting that as I havent caught alot of slot reds. I answered with a slot red. Nice … blacked redfish for dinner that the family and neighbors enjoyed. Next is where I think Lynn got hooked. A big old red busted out of the water over lynns spook and came back for a couple of swirls and swats. Lynn kept her moving but it wasnt to be. I think I saw him flinch ; ) and he too is now a beliver in how explosive a fish whos mouth points down can be on top. I caught another slot we released and Lynn answered with a small trout. As we drifted back by Lynns area of previous excitement I tosssed my spook and started walkin tha dog BAM! 6.5er tore it up. Released and watched her dart away. Caught a tiny red on a gulp swimmin minnow as it started to get hot but I belive that was it. Below is a picture of me holdin dinner givin praise for a great day witha great buddy.
What Ive learned from TheHawg. Summer(when I can fish) EARLY topwater bite is FUN! Walkin the dog takes practice (more for some than others) … took me three summers and Im still learnin.
