Had plenty of bait and loaded up two other boats fishing with Service Men with plenty of crabs and live shrimp.Headed to my Redfish spots and fished 5 good spots problem was no Redfish to be found.Wind blew us off several other spots. Finally we got to a dock I fished before and did catch a 23 incher.Congrats to Jon on that hook up.Water was mud looking and 67 degrees every place i went on the Stono River.Had a great time with two great Service members one Air Force and the other Navy. The original two failed to show and I called in and another Jerry(Navy) was on stand by and showed right up.I hope next year more boats show up.I will push hard for the WAOMC to get involved.Great day with some very special service guys.Heading down to my dock and put the boat on the lift and pressure wash it clean again. Then watch the Redskins do battle with the Saints.Win or lose it will be a great day.
I’m gonna lobby for SSWA to get involved next year

Good on you Joe. Stinks your first group didn’t show up. I hope nothing bad happened to them.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.
My buddy and I had two C-130 Service Crew Chiefs on my boat. Both impressive young men, only 21 but solid heads on their shoulders and serving our country.
Knowing it was high tide at Shem at 8 and bait would be tough to catch, we stopped by Haddrell’s. They we totally out of shrimp, so we got some mud minnows and fiddlers (thinking we might try for sheeps).
It was windy and very chilly in the AM. Headed out Shem and up the Wando near the Wando terminal to try to grass lines with a mm under a cork. I think we landed 1 small trout. Moved to the old train pilings over on the Cooper to try for sheeps but the strong N wind made that really tough so went back up the Wando, into Nowell creek and fished some creek mouths. MM on the bottom and under a cork.
Total for the day was 5 small trout, 1 blue and a huge gar that we lost near the boat.
Not the best day, but not skunked either.
I plan on participating again next year and will get a few buddies with boats signed up as well.

glad i brought the boat up and got to help out… my 2 guys were great folks and we had a fun time BS’ing about stuff, different branches (i am a Marine Vet) different bases we have been on and etc… even though we didn’t produce any keepers, they seemed to enjoy just getting out… i will be up next year for sure…

Fished friday to get an idea of where to go. Caught several tailing reds on the flats and a few in the gutter creeks on the falling tide. Wanted to repeat the same thing saturday but just wasn’t in the cards. I ended up taking the troops out to the jetties after the wind calmed down for some random bsb and whatnot action. We didn’t get skunked but sure didn’t produce what I was hoping for. Pressure change is all I can attribute it to. I was asked if we could please go again! So maybe next round we will have better results.

The weather most certainly did not cooperate. One small trout, a few blues, then out to the near shore when the winds layed down. 10 weakfish from just legal to 24 inches, kept four of the largest. And of course a bunch of small bsb’s. I had three airmen and an older veteran. We still had a good time and planning an offshore bottom trip when the seas let us go. For all you guys unable to make it this year, it will be well worth your time to fit MAD Charleston into your schedule next year. And the food was great too.

We had a great time to despite mother nature trying to ruin everything. We ended up with a couple of over slot reds. Really looking forward to next years event!!

The event was awesome, I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys, three nukes in their late twenties. No reds but we CRUSHED the weakfish. Will post a fresh report with a pic or two this evening.
Sulcataman - Sounds like our day was about identical, you were probably right next to us. South side of the south jetty past Dynamite Hole? We saw a big bull landed at DH on the ride back, happy campers all around.

We were at the outer point of the south jettie btshipp. The weakfish all came off the nearshore a little later in the day, once it calmed down enough to get out there.

After getting on the water , and dragging gulps , peelers , and TTs’
with no results decided to set up and drown squid at 526 bridge
at marina , first fish was an approx. 4-5 lb blue cat “surprise” ,“surprise” , next was 34" red, now that’s what
we’re looking for!! unfortunately the next 8 were 18 to 24" wing tip
to tip sting rays, 3:00pm called it a day one very happy Air Force
guest , it was his first salt experience and his largest fish ever…

Apparently I was in all the wrong places with not the right baits. We couldn’t even catch a cold. Ended up with a 4" BSB at the coal chute. Had eyes on a couple reds lazily cruising down a creek, but couldn’t get either one to eat anything. Should’ve ventured out and put down our live mullet around the jetties in the afternoon. I’ll be taking them again in the near future on some better wind days.
our troops also did well,13 fish boated, 9 reds kept the smallest 17 1/2 inches, one over the slot… they had a blast, one of them had never fished saltwater and is leaving soon… he’ll be stationed somewhere in Montana this time next year, so that was his one and only time to do this… he was extremely grateful for what we all did for them! Beautiful day out on the water for all, thanks to all that put this on and allowed me to participate!

Nice work Meks, you fellas might have won this thing if it was a tourney. Instead, America wins!

I participated also, has a couple of great air force guys on board, after battling the wind the in harbor early without much luck, we headed up the Wando and trolled a couple of creeks. We ended up with 9 trout between 14" and 15", caught and released a few more undersize. They seemed a bit skeptical about trolling at first, but after only about 5 mins and the first fish then the next one about two mins later I had them believing that I knew what I was doing…
great day, great guys, looking forward to doing it again next year.
