MAD Charleston 11-14-2015

Calling all who want to participate in showing our country’s hero’s
the appreciation they deserve. They pay the price so we may enjoy
what we do!
The first and hopefully not last MAD (military appreciation day)
event held in Charleston.
Some of you I’m sure already know of MAD from the events of the past
in Morehead and Southport along with the Va. and Del. chapters.
This year a few of us are trying to bring it to Charleston and are
looking for those that want to help, if you have a boat and want to
host a military guest or as many as your boat carries or to just
volunteer to help out on shore, please, take a minute to check out the MAD link attached to my post signature and go to the Charleston event. If you choose to volunteer, I know you will see gratitude, smiles, and expressions of appreciation shown by the troops you’ve never experienced before.
Thanks in advance,:smiley::smiley::smiley: Lets takeum fishing!!!

GW, I was a participant in one out of Morehead city in 2003 after my return from Iraq. The guy who hosted us couldnt have been nicer and more thankful to what service men and women do for our country. Even with the bad weather we had a blast and put a few fish in the boat. Hope to return the favor this year by sponsoring some young men and women who service our great nation.

Oops ; I really appreciate your contribution of the past and hope
to see you in Chas.:sunglasses:
The first guest on my boat a few years back was a young Marine
that had never wet a hook, much less in a boat near shore, caught a few bottom dwellers before hooking up with JAWS which didn’t last
long “cut line” but the expression he had couldn’t be bought.
Memories will last a lifetime.

lil noah, lets talk about this. Sounds like fun and a great cause.

I always clean fish at MAD MHC, now being closer down this way will have to try to hit this one too!!

I fish to leave the rest of the world behind. I fish because I respect the fish. I fish because it’s in my DNA.

what day is the one planned for here?

Sniper; Nov.14 2015 is the fishing day unless weather creates
an unsafe condition:frowning_face: Please view the link shown in my signature,
go to Charleston chapter it will allow you to keep up with some of the news.
Thanks for the interest and hope to see you there.:smiley::smiley:

To build on the date question, it is Saturday, November 14, 2015. The schedule of events is simple, take your troops out fishing and return mid afternoon. The cookout will start early in the evening around 530 or so. RiversEdge Marina is hosting the event so that’s where troop check in will be Saturday morning and that’s where the cookout will be Saturday evening. Because of that we suggest that you depart from RiversEdge or the Leeds Ave. ramp. We find at the other events that folks leaving from other locations are much less likely to attend the cookout. The cookout is a large part of the event for the comraderie and story telling from the day. Having said that, we know RiversEdge is a long run from everywhere and we can accommodate you leaving from other marinas, house, etc. You will just have to coordinate the location with your assigned troops and checkout and back in with the MAD Dock via cell phone or VHF. We just ask that you still try to attend the cookout.

Hey is it May 30 or Nov 14 fishing day

The Charleston event is Saturday, November 14, 2015.

There are 5 different chapters that make up the whole Military Appreciation Day organization. Each chapter hosts an event in their location. I think what George was trying to say was that if you are interested in traveling to one of the other locations to participate in another MAD event, Morehead City (MHC) is the first MAD event of the year and is May 30th. Morehead City is what us other chapters aspire to become with time. The Morehead City event is HUGE.

Listing of all chapters and event dates:
Morehead City, NC is Saturday, May 30, 2015 - the original and the largest event, started 2006
Tidewater, VA is Saturday, August 29, 2015
Southport, NC is Saturday, September 19, 2015
Lewes, DE is Saturday, October 10, 2015
Charleston, SC is Saturday, November 14, 2015

Thanks Andy for clarifying this ,and sorry folks for the confusion.
I’m trying to spread the word for all MAD chapters to anyone that
might be willing to travel a ways. MAD Morehead is in need of more boats to carry the number of troops signed up, we don’t want to leave any hero on the dock!!! Sorry again, and yes the Charleston event
is Nov.14 . :smiley::smiley::smiley:

Hey Gail. I am planning to provide a boat and mate for four. I may be bringing my own service members from Chas AF Base since my wife is a nurse there, along with their families. I’ve told them about the event and they are very excited for the chance to fish and the cookout.
