MAD Charleston Nov. 10 - 11

Yep ; it’s that time again. Mad Charleston 2017 is your chance to show your appreciation to our nations heros that give to you every day so that you can fish , hunt , raise your families , worship your god , go about daily life free from the fears that affect so many 3rd world countries. Think about it ; these men / women and their families serve you every day (some in hell holes giving their lives) so we can enjoy living in this great country doing our thing in freedom…
This is MAD Charlestons 3rd event to be held again at Rivers Edge Marina on the Ashley river just off Leeds Ave.
Friday evening the 10th is the Captains meeting where all info is shared and you’ll be fed like kings while also being entertained by local bands playing your favorite music…
Sat morning the 11th the heros show up to be treated to a day of fishing , fun , and eats.
TO SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION AND TO SIMPLY SAY THANKS
Please consider volunteering your boat to take as many of these heros
as you can out for the day. They are happy to fish inshore , nearshore , or offshore , they just want to fish !!!
We are also including again this year the Surf/Pier Capts that will be fishing the local piers and surf along with a group ferried out to
Morris Is for surf fishing… So if you’re a surf/pier fisherman and don’t have a boat the Surf/Pier group is a way for you to help!!

Oh;; did I forget to say this event is totally 100% free to the troops and their families simply because of guys/gals like you that want to help say “THANKS” for what you do…

Lots more to come ; if you have questions just drop me a PM or any one of the below here on CF and i’m sure it’ll get answered…

Gene ; marshwabbbit
Andy ; Andyb
Pete ; runbabyrun
David ; dparker

Remember ;;
ONLY TWO THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAS OFFERED TO DIE FOR YOU.
JESUS CHRIST FOR YOUR SINS.

I am interested in learning more and helping. Can one of you who has done this before provide some detail of what the day would be like? I guess start a what time to start, how many folks do you take, what are you expected to provide etc… Sounds like a great cause and how do I help.

Follys Best, you can really do no wrong! Last year was my first year and it was a great experience for all involved. 2 of my 3 troops had never fished before, 1 had never been on a boat!!!

You will specify how many you can take om your boat. Once your troops are assigned to you, you coordinate the place/ time to meet and from there its up to you. I provided food, drinks, bait and tackle.

The wind was howling last year, so we stayed in the creeks inshore, but you can fish where/what you know. We fished out of Folly and I took the guys to Morris and grilled hot dogs for lunch.

It was a great, truly rewarding day! I encourage anyone that can to participate.

Badfish pretty much nailed it.

We do allow offshore for sure if that’s what you know and want to do. However, I will say that we tend to encourage inshore for the reason that many of them aren’t fishermen, aren’t experienced offshore, and can be prone to getting sick since they may not be accustomed to it. Every now and then you may end up with somebody who has experience and doesn’t need any help at all, or a F-16 pilot or captain of a Coast Guard cutter who’s better with motion sickness than anybody else out there, but I would suggest to expect somebody who hasn’t ever fished before. Keep in mind that troops stationed here are from all over the country, so you may have somebody from Kansas who has never stepped foot in a boat.

You can leave from anywhere within the greater Charleston area. We’ve had a charter captain from Georgetown drive down pick up his troops at RiversEdge, take them back to Georgetown for the day, and drive them back to the cookout. Others leaving from Folly, Limehouse, IOP, Remleys, Bohicket, docks behind their house, etc. We do check out the captains and troops in our coordination program on the computer at the event site, so in the case of leaving from somewhere other than RiversEdge you’ll just need to call or text to let us know you have your troops and your pulling out. Same upon returning. If you don’t, we’ll be calling you and your emergency contact all afternoon until we find out. I know that RiversEdge way up the Ashley can be tough, but leaving from there also increases the likelihood of captains and troops staying for the cookout.

Regarding what to provide, our biggest rule is that the troops don’t pay for anything; gas, bait, tackle, etc. On my boat I provide the drinks and ask them to bring whatever they’d like for lunch. Wind was really howling the past 2 years, so we ended up just going to Red’s with another boat who had the rest of their buddies on it for a beer and sandwich to get out the wind for a hour or so.

If anybody has any questions, please feel fr

Thank you for the information. I’ll reach out to George via e-mail.

Last year was my first year. I was planning on doing it again this year until an MRI revealed a torn meniscus in my left knee. Surgery is scheduled after the event but I can hardly walk without a limp so hosting on my boat is probably out. Sorry George.

I signed up, I told my guys not to expect much as a way of fish because I ain much of a fisherman but hopefully we’ll have fun. What happens if the weather seas are to rough?

Trent, Safety first and foremost , If Gene “marshwabbit” sees weather issues i’m sure he’ll spread the word to postpone or cancel the event… In the 6-7 years that i’ve volunteered only 2 events have been re-scheduled for a latter date , in most cases the boats just switch to sheltered waters…
