Fished the Ashley on Sunday to prepare for MAD on NOV 12th.
Caught a 20" flounder in beginning of church creek so we spent 2 hours fighting the current. No further bites and wasted way to much time in there. We made it up to the wooden retaining wall and turned around.
Shifted focus to the docks in the main channel near the Citadel.
Had random bites and picked up a puppy drum as we moved from dock to dock, then one dock just started producing. We had 2 doubles and pulled over 15 reds and one black drum.
Moved on to a few more docks and found a keeper trout along an oyster bar. My slam for the day.
The incoming tide was starting to move in so we tried two more spots with no success.
We also went back to the dock that produced without a bite. I guess timing is everything and were lucky to have found it.
All in all a great day for fishing the Ashley. I’ve been fishing the Cooper for the last two seasons so it was a welcome surprise.
I hope others will share their Ashley experiences for those of us who typically fish other areas.
If I gave away someone’s secret spot, just don’t say anything. No one knows it’s your secret spot.
All caught on artificial baits, all fish released except the flounder and 1 red.
Nice report friogatto , your help pre-MAD last year put my guests
on overslot reds and blue cats at the 526 bridge and the grass line
banks… Care to share your riggin and bait???

Lee ; Appreciate it . It’s a pain to travel so far and use valuable time with the troops searching for bait,I usually pick up whats available frozen when my time is limited and then hope. I also thought about checking Hadrells just before the Capts meeting to see what live bait they may have avail…Thanks again and see you couple weeks…

A coworker who is fishing the event said Southside bait and tackle is selling live bait at either 20 or 25% off to all captains participating in the MAD event. I will be working the minnow traps mid week on and keeping mud minnows in a plastic drum, so I should be able to let you koow Thursday how the supply is going.

fishing MAD this weekend also. I always fish bulls bay/awendaw/sewee area so any tips on or around the Ashley would be appreciated.
I can assure you I won’t share any info and you won’t catch me there again until next year for the same event. thanks fellas, looking forward to a great event.

I feel that the Ashley is pretty new and/or not very productive for many people fishing this event. We should probably take some time during the captains meeting tomorrow night to help each other out with a few spots here and there. I know a handful of productive spots on the Ashley but fish mostly Toogoodoo/Wadamalaw area, so I’m like jellis410, any spots shared won’t be fished until this time next year for the event, except pitviper, I mark all his spots on my GPS.
And I’m more than happy to share all my Ashley spots to the captains.
Captains, don’t forget to go see Kyle at South Side Bait and Tackle for your… well…bait and tackle. Tell him you’re a captain for the event and he will take care of you. I called two days ago and he said he will be stocked up on live shrimp, mud minnows, fiddlers, and of course frozen and artificial, too.
