Mad river canoes and kayaks

Does anyone know anything about mad river canoes. they make this sick fishing kayak although they call it a canoe you can clearly see its a kayak. check out the 14’ synergy series and tell me what yall think

It’s not a kayak, at most it’s a hybrid. It’s a great boat for creek fishing, not so much for paddling straight over long distances. Threre’s enough rocker in the hull that it wants to turn with every stroke. So if you plan to drift fish smaller creeks and rivers it’s okay. if you plan to paddle across the harbor, up the ICW to the nice flats, or across to Capers,… get a different boat.

Are there any good perception fishing kayaks?

Perception is basically Wilderness Systems… I paddle a Wildy Tarpon 160os… Love the WS boats…

There are some ■■■■ good Perception boats. Search 13 is built like a tank and a great fishing platform.

There are so many really good boats that I can’t list em all.
Tarpon, Ride, and new Commander from Wildy
Manta Ray and Ultimate from Native
Redfish from Heritage
Prowler Trident from Ocean Kayak
Outback or Revo from Hobie

The list goes on and on. What do you plan to do and how much do you want to spend. PM me if you like.

Blake, I am a fan of Mad River usually, but not crazy about this boat. I had a chance to fish out of a Synergy 14 a couple of years ago down around Captiva Island Florida. It seemed to do all right in CALM, FLAT water in the morning. Once the wind picked up in the afternoon and a one foot chop developed, the boat turned into a bath tub. (I didn’t have a bilge pump or sponge with me). It was very difficult paddling into the wind with lots of chop splashing into the cockpit and storage areas of the boat. Even back in calm water, I like the Native Ultimate, or even a sit in rec boat better. I’m trying to get out in the Commander this week for a test run, I’d like to see how it compares to the Ultimate and Synergy.

Too Busy, you interested in a “Review” when we get our demo Commander?

Absolutely. How much time will you let me spend in it?

BlakeVO - I bought Too Busy’s Perception Search 13, and I like it a lot. I don’t have the comparitive experience like he does, but if Too Busy owned it, it must be pretty decent. Thats the way I look at it
