Made it to Sixty

Left out of Shem at 8a plannin to stop at the dredge humps. My boat’s never been out past the end of the jetties and I wasn’t sure if it would do it (18 ft Bayhawk CC, hardly any vee to the hull, hard to miss the only camo boat out there). Got out to the humps, checked my gas, only an eighth of the way through the tank… the heck with it, I said, lets go. Went out to the Sixty and as soon as we dropped a line, both me and my buddy hooked up. Caught around 30 bsb, and an array of 20 others. Put 14 in the cooler and that is about all I could stand. I got sick as a dog, guess I don’t have my sea legs:frowning_face:. Asked another boat if they had some dramamine, and they so graciously gave me some, but of course I didn’t keep it down:dizzy_face:.

Decided to head back towards the land in search of calmer waters and a calmer stomach. Stopped at the humps fished around and put 2 more nice bsb in the cooler. Then caught three spiny dogfish in a row, followed by a leopard toadfish. Decided that was enough and headed back into the harbor to fish the jetties for sheeps w/ no luck.

All around a good day, wish I could hit it again today, but unfortunately law school beckons. Hopefully next Sat. will have forgiving seas. I am starting on dramamine two days early next time.:smiley: I am no doubt hooked.

Just so you know, this Saturday’s seas don’t get too much more forgiving than they were.

If you know youu’re vulonerable to motion sickness, try oral scopolomine before heading out, can take with a zofran. Ask your doc to write it or call it in. Lots of alternatives out there; this seems to be the most successful for the most people I’ve dealt with over time. You want to enjoy your time out there.

Where is the Sixty? Just got my boat and have been to the jetties but not beyond.

Can’t wait to go!

“charleston 60” look on a chart. it about 12 miles out heading at a 150 i think? its been so long since i’ve out there…

I understand. Going out it was rougher than coming in. It laid down comfortably around 12. But at 8:30, there’s no way that’s as good as it gets. I have been out many times in other boats and know better than that. The 25+ mph winds from the day before still had the surface tossing. I understand what you are saying though, thanks for the warning.

Thanks for the advice. I will try to get my hands on some. I will be taking some ginger w/ me as well. Learned in a UGA horticulture class about its efficacy. Seems to be pretty effective, I will put it to the real test.

HOW 'BOUT THEM DAWGS!!!

I have a couple of friends of mine that tried the ginger and all that happened was their vomit didn’t taste so bad.

HAHA! I think it would taste worse. I am going to try a coctail of things. Dramamine + ginger + those little prussure point bracelets + a little prayer.

HOW 'BOUT THEM DAWGS!!!

My wife and daughter have both failed ginger, pressure bracelets, electronic pulse wrist devices, dramamine, meclizine (bonine). I believe they’ll work for “minor” cases. Acupuncture can work well as long as you return for maintenance treatments. Otherwise I go with my initial rec.

I do not have a doctor here, as I have just recently moved from GA. Is the medicine you speak of prescription only? Again, thanks for the advice.

HOW 'BOUT THEM DAWGS!!!

I was mating in a tournament up in nc, we took our lay day on the third day, day four we were in 12-15 foot seas. I have never been seasick, but i started feeling a little green. I put on one of those bracelets that send shock pulses to your brain and felt fine the rest of the day. One of the anglers told me that those bracelets are the only thing approved by the fda to treat nausea.

Harry Sea. Thats how I roll.

Had 2 of those. Got them when they were undergoing FDA trial for post-anesthesia nausea. Worked OK but require a lot of fine tuning for some users. I just use the aforementioned pills.

It was absolutely flat as a pancake today!!! We headed south to the 4ki. I haven’t seen it that calm in July. As for the motion sickness I suggest Bonine. It puts Dramamine too shame!!! My Midwest girl can handle the seas on that stuff!!

“hook em and hold on”

whats the report from the 4ki?

Harry Sea. Thats how I roll.

today was great…except for these which seemed to be everywhere…edistofisher was on the money with his forecast:slightly_smiling_face:

miss’n fish’n
212 SEAHUNT

Harris it is was a great day to be out there!!! We probably caught over 100 fish. Unfortunately we only had 8 BSB as keepers. They were nice size though. We caught at least 50-60 BSB’s, another 50-60 Spottail Pinfish I think, and at least 20-30 Dogfish and Sharpnose. All of the keeper BSB’s were caught on the Coppedge. We tried to set up on the side of the Robison for some Sheepies but just couldn’t get it right. Maybe another day.

“hook em and hold on”

I second the Bonine I have an uncle who takes it and never gets sick after throwing up constantly on his first trip. Was beautiful yesterday ran wide open out and in.

sorry to hear you got sick. try reading marbury v madison while on board. that should put you in a near coma and quell the nausea.

we were at the 60 for a while too. lots of bsb’s and some others. not a lot of keepers. had better luck there about a month ago.

anyways, still great day on the water. beautiful ride out w a nice sunrise and smooth ride in.

Duck, congrats on getting to the 60; no guts, no glory. I still get green on occasion if I was out too late the night before, but there’s no shame in the game. The best results I’ve seen are with MotionEaze (Boaters World). Like you said, once you’re cooked, you definitely won’t keep the dramamine down, but you just rub this oil behind your ear and it works quick. But like the guys said, it’s about as flat as it’s gonna get, good luck.

Fish to live.
