I made one 8 inches long and the rest are 10 inches long. The blades are covered with a 5 mil self adhesive holographic vinyl covering… The hardware (split rings, lock nuts, threaded rod are all stainless steel components… Flotation is attached using Gorilla Glue… The release clips are just like the offshore planer board releases but half the price, and I used Berkley Easy Clips for retaining the board to the line…

Woody, where do you get your floatation foam? I’m assuming you paint them with fluorescent spray paint?

Looks like house insulation board. My question is what type of paint? Most any spray paint melts all the foam I’ve used. There is a foam spray paint at hobby lobby but it wears off over time. My solution was to paint with the foam paint. Then use the clear rubber spray paint for the final coat.
Thanks!

I make about the same board but use pool noodles! Try using rubber band instead of clips.
Forgot to mention the noodles are made in a lot of colors, and you can use a small piece of that color to mark the rod that runs to the board for quick referance!
sorry for slow reply Bob but yes I use the foam board insulation…I coat it with Elmers wood glue max that is water proof and let it dry before painting with the flourescent spray paint. Yes the propellant in the spray paint will dissolve the foam board if you don’t coat it first with glue. The release clips come from Daily Limit Outfitters.

Woody they look great I thing I may need to field test them
For you. You don’t want that glue cutting loose on a customer do you.
Haha they not for sale… I been field testing them for years and they are just getting better…These last few are heavier, and sit lower in the water, especially at the nose. They will go under a fishing line as opposed to riding over the top and causing problems…This weekend the line was slipping through the pads on the release clips though. We were pulling through lots of debris as well. I reduced the tension on all of the clips after they were too tight initially. This weekend some were too loose. I guess mid-way is the best placement of the spring for these new clips. The glue is waterproof so no issues there.

Those boards worked great tracked and turned like soldier’s on a drill team . Heavy enough for gizzards and light enough for herring at any speed or wave or wind action. Nicely done Woody.Happy Thanksgiving Everyone. Gobble Gobble.
