Main line

After fishing for years with experienced anglers where we have used 30lb main line, I will be taking many more inexperienced anglers and kids. Anyone have any thoughts on changing size of main line size? Should I increase or decrease line size?

I am running all 30 class gear.

Thanks

I generally run a quality 40# on my 30 class gear purely for durability and for that fact that I’ll have all sorts of skill levels on that rod. It’s just as important to spend time setting up the drag on the reel so that it can’t be “accidentally” overtightened and cause a hook to pull or the line to break.

Edgewater 245cc

Use Momoi Diamond Hi-Catch. No matter the breaking strength rating, it is the most durable and longest lasting line. It is a good deal more expensive than others, but well worth the extra cost.

Momio is very good line. I thought they were over selling it until I got some experience with it.

Go to Haddrells and get one of those huge spools of sufix. I usually use 50 for all my trolling stuff but 30 wides, 50’s and 50 wides are what I use.

On reels I want to cast out far, I use 20# braid even for fresh water (up to 3000 series reels). I use 50# PowerPro on gear when faced with ugly inshore structure (3000 to 5000 series reels). I have two Quantum Cabo reels one with 65# and one with 80#. I do have one fresh water reel and a long heavy rod rigged with 50# for pulling LM bass out of lily pads.
