Anyone have any recomendations, Rockland, Bar Harbor, somewhere like that? Want to maybe fit in a fishing trip but also eat lots of lobster!! Going in August after the summer rush is over so any insight will be appreciated !

We normally stay at a friends house in Blue Hill. Its an awesome small/quaint seaside community. If you can find someone to let you tag along while they pull lobster pots do that. Its one of the coolest things i’ve done. Not unlike crabbing but with astonishing views and seals all over the place.
I would definitely recommend Bar Harbor just to say you’ve been there. If you have time you can take the ferry to Nova Scotia for a day or two and or go whale watching if thats ur thing. Freeport a neat touristy town where the original LL Bean is. Camden is a cool little town too.
Acadia national park is just out side of bar harbor and is a must.
One year we flew into Portland and drove #1 to Blue Hill it was a several hour drive but the views and towns were amazing. I would definitely recommend just driving through some of the coastal towns. It doesnt matter where you turn it looks like a post card.
As far as lobster, you can hardly drive 10 minutes without seeing a lobster pound on the side of road where they steam them up right in front of you and its cheaper than going to mcdonalds.
Bottom line, my recommendation is to free lance it and give yourself plenty of time; two weeks if possible. Its hard to squeeze all of maine into one week. Fly into Portalnd or Bangor, rent a car, and grab a road map then start your adventure.

Thank’s for the Info, pescazorro! Wife wants to go somewhere for a few days, just to get away. I saw a report somewhere, that lobster is cheaper than lunch meat, this year. We do plan on flying and renting a car. I just don’t want her to make reservations at one place and lock us in somewhere. I would like to get in the car and take it as it comes! If I like a place, I want to ge able to hang around or go when I’ve had my fill. I kind of like the idea, of maybe starting at Rockland and working our way up to Bar Harbor. As for the Black Flys, I know all about them. I drove up to Canada once and made the mistake of stopping along the road the take a pee. I had to darned near run through the woods, peeing as I went, to keep them off! They bite hard! I had forgotten about them. I’ll look it up. Thanks

We did a lobster run 2 years ago. We drove up and stayed in Bar Harbor and was greatly surprised about the place and really, really enjoyed it. Acadia National Park is a 100% must see. And the lobster pounds are fun places to grab a lobster or 4.
If you don’t mind scrolling through family vacation photos, you can find some of our Bar Harbor and Acadia photos in this album:

We got our lobsters from Trenton Bridge Lobster pound. You go in and get in line, then go to a cooler and pick out your live lobsters. They put your lobsters in a net bag with a tag number. They then take your bag of lobsters and cook them in tubs filled with sea water over wood fired coals. Man! They also ship lobsters too. Now is the lobster season.
On the photos, they were taken over July 4th week:
They include 4th of July Fireworks at the National Mall, Washington, DC,
Smithsonian Air and Space Museum,
New York City,
Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park,
Boston big dig
Baltimore Aquarium

Sounds like you have the right approach. I cant imagine going to maine and just staying in one spot. Yall should have a blast.
Pro tip: go to a fishing village and go to the biggest hole in the wall dive bar you can find - you know the kind that looks a little scary - Strike up a conversation with some true locals and see whats up and try and hitch a ride on a lobster boat. One such bar would be Peppers Pub in Elsworth - It will be on your right down the first street after you cross the bridge heading north into town. We met some true salt of the earth lobster fisherman from way back in that place.
Have fun and give us a report on the trip with some pics. Even on a good/expensive year, lobster is only like $6-$7 per pound up there. Almost makes you want to drive a saltwater tanker up there!
Oh yeah! Pack for all types of weather. In the short time we were there we saw anywhere from 50 degree to 75 degree temperatures. Raining one minute, foggy the next,

Our biggest expense was food and gas. I had banked a ton of motel points staying 65 days in motels during Katrina and 70 during Ike - we managed to stay in all hotels using my points and at no cost. We even stayed in the Waldorf Astoria. The lobby was great, the bathroom was really nice, the room was OK. We hit NYC at 11pm, walked around town until 2:30, got up for check out at 10am…we didn’t get to enjoy the Waldorf like we would have preferred.
My son’s birthday is Aug. 4…I’ll probably have Trenton Bridge Lobster pound ship us some lobster. All I need is some clean blue salt water to cook 'em in.

If you havent gone yet. Get a rental car and drive. There are little coastal towns all along the way that have their own personality.
Spent a few days in Camde, ME. It was wonderful. the people, the things to do-see; all or it…wonderful.
I heard just the other day that lobster is super cheap due to an abundance this year. Enjoy!
