I got a Malibu hull and have been rebuilding it slowly but surely. I put a layer of glass on the casting deck today and will follow up with 2 or so more layers in the next few days.
Thanks to Russ, Tripletrouble, Chris V and others for advice!
I am going to use Rustoleum primer and topside marine paint for the inside, what paint/primer should I use on the outside? Should I go for a gelcoat?

Dang, Rap, you have changed. Are you busy this weekend?
Consider using durabak on the deck. I got some form a company called Cl cote online. Comes in colors has shredded rubber in it made a great non skid, covered well, and looks good. It can be rolled on or brushed. If you are really into it you can spray it. I brushed mine and it looks good.It is self leveling so if you are careful the brush is just fine. Probably use awlgrip on the hull.
Nice work, Rap! I’m working on a similar project myself, so I know how much work you are putting into it. Awlgrip is very expensive, but from what I read/hear, its nearly permanent, and looks great. I would not do gelcoat unless you send it somewhere for them to do it. I tried gelcoat on my transom and it was a complete disaster and set me back a good week. But I’m sure I did something wrong. Anyway, keep posting the pics…

On the repair to the outside, did you use epoxy resins? Gel coat will stick to polyester resins but not to epoxy resins. At least that's what the experts tell me.
I used polyester on the outside. I’m going to use the Interlux Brightsides forthe outside. Got it primed yesterday and going to put the first coat on today. Would it be feasible to run the polyurethane paint through a spray gun?

God is great, Beer is good, People are crazy
I got ya Russ. Do I still have your Weed Eater by the way? If so, then it’s at my grand dad’s house and I’ll et get it back to you ASAP!
Scotty D- Yeah I’m going to put the speakers in there. I was planning on putting them down in the front wall of the casting deck but I put a 2x4 across the length of it to supports those two other 2x4s running across for the deck to sit on. I’m somewhat concerned about the anchor getting caught up in the wires of he radio though, ot exactly sure what I’m going to do to take care of that.
Seahunt- yeah it’s half Great Stuff and half packing peanuts from my dad’s shop. The Great stuff is on top and bottom and the peanuts are in the middle so they can’t escape.
Put the two coats of Yella Interlux Brightsides on the bottom so I’ll get some pictures as soon as I get the chance. Forgot my camera when I went this morning.

Be sure to put a weep drain through the center of your rear bench to the back of the boat. You may have one already and I dont see it.
I had one of those boats and mine didnt. Made for wet feet.
You can’t see it in the pictures but in the bottom corners of the rear bench, there’s “tunnels” going through to the back allowing the water to drain along the sides of the boat. Good idea though thanks!
