This was my Winter project. I wish I had taken more photos of the process between start and finish. You may have seen Rapchizzle’s Malibu project on this site also. http://old.charlestonfishing.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=96686
The funny thing is we met on another matter, talk quickly turned to boats, and we were both working on refurbishing malibus. I think we have the same hull but mine is set up for remote steering while his is set up for tiller.
I really bought the boat for the trailer, but then decided the boat was salvagable. I replaced the floor, applied non skid and new paint to the interior, wet sanded and compounded the outside, installed new hardware, installed a new to me 25 hp Johnson 2 stroke, installed a new steering system, and new hubs and lights on the trailer. I just need to get my controlls and wiring harness mounted and install a new Garmin fish finder and we will be all set.
Both yours and Rap’s boats are looking great! Good job!!

The shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor.

With any luck, we might be riding this weekend. I need to Call Mr. Sign and get my registration numbers printed. Interlux brightside on the interior. I sanded the floor and sides of the boat just to get rid of sharp edges and knock off any dirt. I did not use any primer. The interior had splatter finish so the texture of the new surface and the old blend together pretty well. I intended to have the non skid and paint the same color, but I took Chris V’s advice and did the contrasting grays which does look good.
Rap I can’t believe you covered the orange up! GO TIGERS!!!

Got all my controls hooked up, battery installed, and fish finder installed. Also had a cushion made for the driver’s seat. Sometime soon I will install ligts, and switches on the console. The boat performs very well, but I think the motor could stand to be raised a few inches.
Maiden Voyage!
I would like to raise the motor, but the bracket really does not have enough of a “lip” to raise it very much. Seems to ride fine, so I may just leave it alone.

Wow Triple! That turned out great! You can see the reflection of the water off the hull
Lets plan a sandbar celebration with some brown coolaid. I’m not kidding
NICE JOB. Kids look pumped!
The “Ms. Pam” does have a nice ring to it but she says absolutely NOT. lol
Opti - That sounds great. Lets find a low tide one afternoon. Rap - you need to join us.
I love my 23’ Key West, but I forgot how easy and fun a small boat can be. Looking forward to fishing after work some this summer. No mess and no fuss with this little jewel!
