I have an older Lowrance GPS with a navionics chip for the coast. But it does not even show a lake, when I’m in the lake.
What chip do I need for Lake Murray?

Download the Navionics App for your smartphone(assuming you have one) if you don’t want a new chip. I use the Navionics chip only because Striperskiff was giving them out a few years back.

Is that app any good. I have never used it(and cant look at it right now). Is it the same as the chip?
Depends what phone you have. Android is only 10$ and is great. Although the new update they installed is horrible. It changed alot of keys and so forth. But the phone map is identical to chip. I used it for a couple yrs before i got a chip.
If you have ios (iphone) thats a different story. The map is the same, everything works tge same but i think it costs much much more. Not sure on the price but dont think its 10$.

Android app is free, but you have to download the maps for your area which are between $9.99 and $49.99 …
Apple app for iPhone & iPad are also free, but the maps START at $49.99 and go up from there …
If you want the fish finder chip, then you will need to upgrade your existing chip … the cheapest option is the Navionics+ chip which gives you a years worth of free updates for right at $100 … After a year the chip still works but no more updates as the lake gets mapped …
… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

Yep. He never seems to miss an opportunity to bring this back up!
For the record, I wasn’t giving them away, but I did give Loon a sweet deal on my old Nav SD chip when I bought my E-7 that uses a micro SD. Thing was, although I had originally purchased an SD card for my old unit, years later a friend had a new card that wouldn’t work in his old unit, so we traded. I slapped it in and never even paid attention enough to notice it was the micro SD in the SD adapter.
In short, I sold my microSD/SD to Loon, then added about another $50 and bought myself another microSD/SD card.
For sure, not one of the best deals I ever made, but unfortunately, not the worst either.

I got the navionics app for my iPhone and I spent 9.99 on it and it includes anywhere in the US.

Jamey, this is real helpful too to look for spots you may want to fish before you come up:

Thank you guys.
My son and his friends are goingoup there for spring break and they don’t know the lake like I do. The app week give them a line/track/route to file home of needed.
Tim, thanks I will use that
We use the app and love it. You can hit track to start and then stop the track when you are to your destination. It saves it and you then name it. We name all ours by where they start and finish ie home to liberty, home to hurricane cove, etc. The track just shows up as a line bit easy enough to follow. We got home one night in fog so dense I could barely see the water beside the boat with that app and a compass. You can put it on all your devices that share the same Google log in. Have it on my phone and a ten inch tablet that was only 100 at best buy. They have gone to a subscription model I think with the new update but for ten bucks a year you can’t beat it.
Hey fishb8, I still have the chip I had in my lms337c. It is the fishing hotspots chip I believe, but it did have Murray on it in pretty good detail. If I can find it you can have it.

Tigerfin, you are a very generous person. Thank you so much. I owe you one
No, you don’t owe me anything. I’ll put it in the mail tomorrow. Just glad someone can get some use out of it.
