Thanks Optiker, I’ve been to the North end a couple times always worried about the south end without anyone to lead me out the first time. However with the help of your map I believe my daughter and I will try the south end tomorrow (looks a little closer to Charleston). Hopefully we can find a good spot.
Regards, Cskiff
I’m camping in Buck Hall October 19-21. I’m taking my youngest brother for the first time. Last time I was in BB I ran my fiberglass boat on an oyster bed in a creek on the way out and into another bed on the edge of the bay. That was the south side. Lesson learned, this time I am bringing an aluminum boat with much less HP. Since my gas capacity and traveling speed will be greatly reduced with the smaller boat I’m thinking of focusing on the north side of the bay. Can anyone think of a reason that the north side would be any less productive than the south side? Or should I just ride to the south? We are hoping to have a fun weekend, dropping the crab pots and hopefully catching our limit. We are coming in from Columbia and both have small children (not coming this trip) so we don’t have the luxury or coming down often and spending a lot of time in the bay.
Any advice or tips (from where to head or set out crab traps) is greatly appreciated. Regardless of the outcome, it should still be alot of fun. Time on the water with family!
Again, thanks in advance and full coolers to all.
i see quite a few of the traps set out in the channel on the n. side. good luck and give us cola guys some info. i gotta get down there shortly or burst. i talked to mr. rut at carolina seafood an hour ago and he said that he had some really big and pretty shrimp. he got 1500lbs yesterday. 16-20’s in the $2.75 range. might just have to hit him up for a couple hundred pounds and then go shrimping just for the hello and fun of it.
I just greatly improved the electronics on my boat, an older guy here at work was trading boats and sold me his 8" color lowrance for $150.00 WOW! My 5" color combo just broke and the timing was awesome. The misses and me went down a month ago and scouted out all of the old spots and the chartplotter was on the money. I can follow the channel in the fog if I needed to. We started South BB 6 years ago in a jon boat with no Nav. and did night trips dead reconing back to anderson in the dark. Not bad for a couple of newbs. I wouldn’t trade that Chartplotter for anything especially with a larger boat that water be skinny just a couple of feet off the channel. And as always look out for the ICWW non lighted markers at night.

shrimpdaddy; i am envious. i have to find a new one. my garmin has sunspots in it. it still works but going with the hummingbird probably unless you want to make a quick 50 on that 8"er. ha ha
yea I know, I still think I may send the 5" down to miami to a cuban I found on craigslist that said he can fix it… LOL nice to have a back up and man the money keeps getting tighter and tighter

there is nothing like running that bay quick at night and all you have to do is concentrate on what is in front of you like someone with no lights anchored in the middle of the channel!!! sure is a benifit. My little jon didn’t run all that fast so it wasn’t that much of an issue with a small boat but the big motor can get you hurt in a hurry. OH YEA ! I was coming back from the south end in the ICWW and got passed at 1:00 am by a big center console and we all made mention of how you need to slow your roll in the intercoastal, when we saw him make a hell mary cut to barely miss a dock. Man that was something to keep my hand off the throttle… and the bottle…
