Made it to Daytona in one piece (halfway point for us). Going to let the babies spend a couple days with the grandparents and we’re going to leave for marathon Sat morning around 330-4. Try to beat the traffic and let the kids sleep in the truck on the way.

Thought I would post up a report since I haven’t seen any of the other guys post up that were down there with me. We mainly trolled the first 5 days we were there spending a little time at the reef on the way in to catch dinner. We picked at the tuna (8-10 pound range) all week and a couple slinger dolphin.
Weather was pretty good it was 2-3 most of the week but a little choppy from the wind. Layed down a bit on Wednesday I believe but the chop had scattered the weeds. Caught a few nice red grouper and a nice black that was about 25 pounds. Sucked to throw them back. Good weed lines the first few days in 6-700 ft. Stream was close while we were there about 5 miles off the reef.
Acres of mullet in sister creek and tons of tarpon rolling in there all day. Decided to net some mullet one day coming in and try the tarpon that night. Caught my first tarpon ever after about a 20 min soak on a mullet. Right at 90 pounds caught in the first bend to the left coming from the ocean in sister creek.
Plenty of great yt action on the reefs. Found flags in about 120 foot but you could barely keep a jig head on for the rat Kings. Caught a nice keeper triple tail one afternoon that was almost completely yellow. Not sure why the color difference.
All in all a great trip and time with the family. Can’t wait to get back in June. Oh and traffic coming home was a nightmare on 95. Took 19 hours to get to Greenville from marathon. The wild fires had 95 shut down around Daytona. Yamaha sipped the fuel all week we only burned about 90 gallons Fishing and trolling 6 days. Truck on the other hand burned about 190 gallons pulling the boat down and back. That 9.3 mpg hurts. I would post some pics but since photo bucket stopped working I can’t really figure out how to find the link on imgur mobile app to post them.

My oldest Madison with her first fish. Side bar the Spider-Man and Barbie reels wore out the baby yt at the patch reefs. Oh and I didn’t mention in the last thread we didn’t have to buy ballyhoo but the first day. The were really thick on the patch reefs in about 20-30 ft of water.

My family loves it down there. We leave out on june16. Flying down and renting a 28’ contender. I’m tired of the stressful drive with a boat.
sounds like you had a great time. just found out I am getting a transfer at work to Sarasota in may. but will be in Marathon last week of june and first week of july . 9.5 miles per sounds like my truck. but I still think its worth it.

We will be off Sombrero Beach road near Sister Creek June 23-30th. Seems like the weather has gotten a lot better the last week and the dolphin are a little thicker. See y’all down there! Who ever is going to be in the area that week shoot me a pm and we can exchange numbers and share reports.

I’ve been watching this thread and want to see if I can get some additional Intel. I am looking to go down to that area in a few weeks. Going to fish and try to catch some lobster with my girls. Does anyone know if lobstering is better around the Islamorada area or marathon area? Or can you find lobsters anywhere down there?
I got a great deal on a place in the Future Yacht Club but I am wondering if the fishing and lobstering is better down around Marathon?
