Left at 6pm on a Friday & after dinner, gas, bathroom, & breakfast breaks got there at 9am Saturday. Long trip but worth it. Got to do a charter with Capt. Chris Morrison, went to a reef near the 7 mile bridge & loaded up on yellow tails & some snappers. Had a great time going out with him. It is just unreal how many fish come up to the boat once we started chumming. I also got to do some fishing & snorkeling with my son & wife at the Bahia Honda state park. Trip was great, can’t wait to do it again.
I was originally planning on a 6 hr trip for Mahi & Sails which would have been $700 but the wind was a little too high so I did a 4 hour trip on the reef & it was $550. Hopefully the next time we get to go down there I will get to do the Mahi & Sail trip.
Captain Roy on the Tiki out of Islamarada is a good bet too. Next time you get to dive, try Sombrero Reef. All of them are cool and all a little different from each other.
We were going to try Sombrero beach but the day we were going the wind had pushed up alot of sea grass & clouded up the water so we didn’t try it. Wind was not bad on the Island but I guess out at sea it must have been blowing a lot worse. I also here there is some good scruba diving at Key Largo, I think some under water statues & other structures. I am already starting on a to do list for next trip down.
Thats the place, Chris has his bost docked there. Great food at the resteraunt behind there too.
We did not stay there, we were farther down on Marathon.
I have always wanted to go to the Keys and fish . I just wish I had the money for a charter . I guess I need to start saving . I cant even afforsd a trip here offshore .
Nice fish! Just got back from a trip with Cap’n Chris. What a GREAT time. Caught our limit of Mangrove and some really nice Muttons. Had 2 cobia to the boat that were just a little short. The HUGE Goliath grouper was a nice fight, but did’t last too long! If ever in the area, Cap’n Chris can put you on the fish.
quote:2012 I think? Have y'all gone back since then?
OK, it was year before last at the HIE. This years meet was at Boca Grande. Time flies when you’re having fun Haven’t been back there, didn’t like it the way we do Cudjoe. Have been back to Cudjoe since then. Don’t like motels, we’d rather rent a house.
I love fishing the Keys. Amazing what comes up to a chum bag on the patch reefs.
