March 31

Four of us fished near the 226 hole. Very dark on the way out. In between the jetties, we passed and incoming container ship, and did’nt appreciate it’s wake until we were two feet in the air. We were only doing 22kts, but that came to a halt after we crash landed. Everyone OK and no damage to anything thankfully. Boy it’s dark at 430am.

Lines in 725a. One biteoff on way back in first three hours. Then a 25lb dolphin up from the downrigger. (down about 60’ of water) 20 min later 15lb wahoo off the surface outrigger. Go figure!! That was it for the day. A couple more cutoffs. Went in to the black banks and picked up a couple barely keeper black sea bass. Noticed some little tunny working the surface and one of the crew suggests trolling a spoon for them. Sure enough, two little tunny in about 20 min.

Took some pictures of some languising sunfish. (goofy looking things) Saw large leatherback turtle and numerous loggerheads on the way back in.

We started fishing in 74degree water, but didn’t do any good until we trolled back to 250’ water and 71 degree’s.

The fish aren’t here in any numbers, but catching a wahoo made our day. Drank lots of beer and were tired upon our return.

Can’t wait to do it again.

Yea, I hit one of those wakes in the dark, too. Won’t do that again, how fast were you trolling that downrigger to catch a Dolphin? Must be using mono or braid, not cable?

“The big one’s still swimming, let’s go.”

The down rigger ball was out 100’ but at 5.5kts it was likely only sixty feet down. Only fouled with sargassum one time. The other dowrigger was a z wing down about 50’.

Nice bright female jumper dolphin. Wahoo never jumped or surfaced. It’s a good day when you catch a variety of sport fish.

Can’t wait for the seas to cooperate again. Boat clean and gassed for next trip weather allowed.
