I’ll play as well if we can keep it saltwater related! As for the Theme, why not make it an either or deal with Crabs & Shrimp. Some of the best critter patterns out there can go either way. Toads, Kwans, Sliders & Crystal Shrimp are good examples of double duity patterns.
I vote for crab or shimp, or a mix. I don’t have much experience with either (mostly tied freshwather trout) and am looking forward to giving it a try. Good thing I still have money left on my CA gift card.

I will tie Merkins. I did my shrimp pattern for this past swap, so I don’t want y’all to get the same one again.
Here’s my Merkin I just tied up. I tied it right, but when I combed out the yarn, it didn’t work like it should. Is it just the yarn I’m using, or is there some trick to getting it to fan out, but not be a huge mess like it is?
Hey where’s Calibogue? He sent me an AWESOME rattle shrimp pattern… It gave me a few ideas and with an old crawdad pattern I did I may have something… I’ll tie one up this weekend and post it to see what y’all think…

i say saltwater crustacean it is. we’ll call it a CRimp. (dont tie a copepod on a #24 please). shrimp are more like most traditional streamer patterns so many of you may feel more comfortable, but i doubt you would turn down a crab in the mail. if you want to double enter tie one set of each and get two sets back. save you making up another identity.
With this level of interest maybe we can accelerate the time line(we’ll see). Let’s try to get a list put together by March 1. We can aim at the first 15 entries with a cap at 17. if i tie more than 15 of anything the first and last may not be recognized as the same pattern. my mind tends to wander; like that time we were out on cedar island and that boatload of …oh nevermind.

I will be tying the fly I previously mentioned, which is a type of rattle shrimp, but I am certain it will be sufficiently different from Jedi’s. I will post pics of the pattern later this weekend to ensure that is the case.

The only rattles I have found locally have been the DOA rattles and they are a little too big so mine will be a mutant crawfish/shrimp non-rattlin pattern… I think… I am gonna play around with it this weekend and post pix for y’all approval. Also I found a site today that shows how to getthe yarn on a hook for crab patterns… I may try a crab pattern too if I can get it figgered out… Calibogue sent me a fly that was a rattle shrimp and it looks awesome. I’ll shoot some pix of it too and see if we can’t get 
him in too…
