March Fly Swap. entry by 3/17

Where we at now… 15 in or are we still at 13? I am gonna start tying now so I don’t get side tracked… I planned on tying 17, that’ll be the max or are we going higher?

“I’ll be your huckleberry…” --Doc Holiday

Sorry guys - just a had a schitt-ton of stuff come up at work, so I’m going to have to step out on this one.

I’ll definitely be willing to get in on the next one though, just let me know.

we lost a couple added one. let’s go ahead and tie 12. that will give a little wiggle room. that leaves room for one more or one of us can double up. lets aim for a march 10(two weeks) send in. if its all butter i can have em back out for st paddy/spring break. if reality rears its ugly head we’ll deal with it. if this is hopelessly optimistic lemme know(dont want to squeeze anybody out on logistics). i have a scaled up version(6/0) of a crab to see how the materials mix. i havent put it in water yet so i may mutate it a few more times and then shrink it. what did you think flyguy?

rookie-- mutant shrimp
stripstrike–unortho crab pattern that works wonders
pawleysi – shrinkin crimpin tool

thats 12. if any of you need out lemme know. we can also squeeze in one more if you can produce in a couple weeks. lemme know if you want to add/change your pattern. looks like we have a good mix of crabs and shrimp. now if theyll just get this dredge out of my face so i can fish again. i have resorted to shad and its been fun, but my blood runs RED.

we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control

Finished working on what I’ll call Fiddler Crab #1. I took some pictures, created a photobucket account, and turns out the picture is too big to upload without buying something. I’m no computer expert and don’t really care to spend money to upload pictures. Any other ideas?

Anyway, I’ll give a quick discription.

Hook: Gamakatsu SL11-3H Size 4
Thread: Dark Tan/Olive (the sticker fell off)
Weight: Lead Barbell (thinking of changing to gold)
Body: Tan Polypro Tan, 6 pieces tied perpendicular to the hook, fanned out and trimmed to size (thinking of going with a darker color)
Tail: Tan and Blood Marabou
Flash: Gold Crystal Flash

Fiddler #1 doesn’t have eyes, but I think #2 will- .021 diameter mono. Also thinking of adding some crazy legs, but that may be a bit much.

Of note: I finally found a use for the mustache comb that came with my beard trimmer…It works great for combing out the yarn to give an even look.

E-mail it to me and I’ll re-size it and post it for you…

Sounds exactly like the Merkin crab I had planned to tie - glad someone else is going to tie it. Looks like a great pattern, and I bet the poly-pro yarn is much better than this crappy craft yarn I have.

Nikon- Thanks. I’ll send tonight when I get home.

Sorry to bail but just got sent out of town for 2 weeks during this

Here is Travelinjack’s fly…

Good lookin’ fly, Jack.

One tip/suggestion for you. Since the hook is going to ride with the point up (due to the location of the dumbell eyes), try tying the yarn on the other side of the hook. That way, when it’s in the water, you’ll see all yarn and no hook shank.

FF- I’ll give that a try tonight.

Stopped by CA to see MM. He was in and a great help on some techno stuff. im trying to get my claws to wave up with some polypro. it was almost too bouyant and was outworking the lead eyes. now i have some thoughts to tie. BTW i got my nephew on 2 bass. it was too windy for the fly but they hit a tiny roadrunner crawled on the bottom… hes only 4 but knew that just reeling them in wasnt catching them(worked last year). he wanted to Really catch them but couldnt go slow enough.

we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control

Hutch, good to finally shake hands…I’ll be putting together the “Go-to-shrimp”. Thanks…

Been tying all morning… dreamin of redfishville and tyin  I have about half of the 12 tied… are we keeping it at 12? I’ll tie a few extras for myself but I want to make sure that I get enough tied… I don’t want to be late like the last swap… Hitting bushy park in the am with theyak tomorrow morning if anyone wants to paddle along… I know all the cool kids are out at the ville with Dolphin D, but I have stick a little closer to home… launchin around 0830…

I meant to tie some flies today but the weather was too nice…so I ended up digging a well in the yard. At least I was outside.

Nikon, would love to fish in the morning with you, but unfortunately, I don’t have a yak. Hopefully I can get one soon. Good luck.

No worries TJ… in a couple of weeks I’ll be heading up to NC/VA to see my brother and to pick up my other yak… if you don’t have one when I get back I’ll let ya borrow one of mine and we’ll hit the park. I finished up tying the rest of my flies today… I had to keep taking breaks… I kept rushing and they started to get crappy… I untied a couple and re-tied them after I slowed down again. It really helps. I also tied up a couple of clousers and a black and red deciver… I had to stay home with the kids today so while they played outside I was at the bench… wish I was fishin but not a bad way to spend the day though  Pawleys I have all 12 of mine tied and awaiting your address

Nikon- I’m game anytime. Right now I have to pay the tax man so it may be a month or so before I can take a serious look at a kayak. I was researching the net the other day and came across a double hull model fishing kayak called the “wave walker.” Looked pretty cool. You know anything about them? Looks slow, but pretty versitile when it come to fishing.

As far as the flies, I have about 6 tied, but I think I’m going to start over using the gold dumb bell weights. I am also going to tie the yarn to the bottom of the shank as suggested by FlyFlishin.

really dont think my identity is much of a secret so here goes the address.

i havent heard one way or the other on the timeline so maybe we should revert to the 3/17 schedule?? if i get them all before then i will process it.

i got a working claw that waves up on the stop. i know they say kill the crab when a red comes up to act like it is hiding, but i know the little blue crabs get all feisty and snap at me when i walk the flats. im sure that is fatal with mr red. anyway, white polypro core and polar aire color. want to cook up some hair dye for some spun body stuff when the kitchen isnt watched but i got the grands today so maybe tomorrow. ive got some colors that are close but i want to try to get a little closer. maybe ill pass through the cajun croaker green somewhere in the brewing. im getting a little tighter on the spin(thanks MM) using 10 pound PowerPro. Hope it cant cause a wind knot from there, so maybe i found a use for it.

we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control

PowerPro for the tying thread??? Holy crap that sounds awesome! I am gonna have to try that… Man MM that is an incedible idea… I don’t know how many times I broke the thread while tying this weekend… usually on the whip finnish

-Pawleys… I’ll have those flies in the mail to you this week. we’re sending 12 right?..

“I’ll be your huckleberry…” --Doc Holiday

I have yet to start tying, but I can tie them fairly quick. So, I am tying 12 by the 12th or 12 by the 17th. Just let me know and they will be in the mail before the due date.
