So I am out for spring break and wanted to take my kayak out for a little fishing. Is it too cold to go? And what all do I need to wear and what do I need to use for bait, or artifical’s? Hoping to get out there this week and just wanted some advice. Thank you
It’s not too cold. Take a towel and spare set of clothes in some sort of dry bag. Wear your life jacket. It’s still chilly enough to get hypothermia if the wind is blowing or early/late in the day after a swim.
The fish have been pretty tight lipped lately, and bigger artificial seem to be getting hit but not swallowed.
Mud minnows under a cork seems to be the most productive for me lately.
Good luck!

I would add to the wise gentleman above. Wool sweater. Keeps you warm even when wet. And if cold is a issue i wear my trusty blue hole ridden wool sweater. Its been wver where with me ha.
I too carry a dry bag during duck season when in my kayak. It has a dry set of clothes, thermal blanket and starter log. Fortunately enough I have never personally had to use it, but my best friend has. . And his only request was next time I should pack socks. Can’t think of it all the first time. Right. Haha. I now will add a towel.
On the bait. Idk, I haven’t caught anything yet. Thought i have mostly been just enjoying the outdoors with the off chance i feel a thump. New to this salt water adventure. But I dream of gigging and and a water temperature closer to 62-64.
I’ll be in the North Cherry Grove area at the end of this week. It looks like a front is coming through, but does anyone happen to know the water temperature in the creek areas? Thanks
